CBO: Federal Healthcare Spending To Surpass All Discretionary Spending By 2016
September 5, 2012 – Under current law, federal health care spending is on pace to exceed all discretionary spending by 2016, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
The change is due to large increases in Medicare and Medicaid spending and added spending under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) over the next decade, a feat the Tax Foundation calls a “truly unprecedented and scary” scenario. The nonpartisan tax research group analyzed recent CBO projections of the budget for 2012 to 2022, finding that over the next decade Medicare spending will increase from $550 billion to $1.064 trillion, while Medicaid would more than double from $253 billion to $592 billion.

In addition, new exchanges and subsidies under Obamacare will force mandatory healthcare expenditures to grow from $25 billion to $181 billion in 2022. “In total, healthcare entitlement spending is due to more than double, from $828 billion this year to $1.837 trillion in 2022,” according to the Tax Foundation. “This means healthcare spending will overtake all discretionary spending in 2016 – Obama’s last year in office if reelected,” the group said. “This would be truly unprecedented, and scary, since discretionary spending represents the basic functions of government, including defense, law enforcement, roads, etc.” The rise in health care expenditures comes on top of automatic defense and discretionary cuts set to take effect in January 2013 as a result of last year’s failed budget deal, unless Congress takes legislative action to change the situation.

The Budget Control Act, passed in August 2011, set in motion a $1.2 trillion trigger in defense and discretionary spending reductions after a congressional super committee failed to reach an agreement on where to cut in the federal budget. The Tax Foundation said that, prior to the agreement, healthcare spending was set to eclipse discretionary spending in 2019. “Discretionary spending is projected to decline relative to GDP throughout the next 10 years because of the caps on discretionary funding that stem from provisions of the Budget Control Act,” the CBO reported on Aug. 22 in “An Update to the Budget and Economic Outlook: Fiscal Years 2012 to 2022.” “By CBO’s estimate, discretionary spending will fall to 5.6 percent of GDP by 2022 -- the lowest level in at least 50 years,” the report said. Total discretionary spending will be 6.2 percent of GDP in 2016.

The CBO projections mark the first time that health care spending alone would transcend all discretionary spending: the outlays generally controlled through appropriations bills in Congress. Total entitlement spending, however, had already surpassed defense spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 1976, according to the Heritage Foundation. In 2012, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security spending reached an estimated 9.7 percent of GDP, while defense spending diminished to 4.5 percent. In 1965, defense accounted for 7.4 percent of GDP, while entitlements were 2.5 percent of GDP.

Obama says he won't make the mistake of trying to work with Republicans but yet is not helping Dems win back seats in the house, fucking brilliant.....

He has a good chance since illegals will be able to cast votes. Remember you don't need an ID to vote. Nothing wrong with that picture huh???

Hopefully . . . but if he does? Is this what we're in store for?

All indications imply it will be more like this...

Do you have any evidence of ANY illegals voting?

Do YOU have any evidence that if I and others were allowed to own fully automatic M60s we would run around killing people with them? No, but doing so would certainly increase the possibility.

When did democrats ever require evidence? You are willing to convict Romney of tax fraud, tax evasion with no evidence. Funny how you are so pious, yet so clueless.

Let me know the second you have evidence illegals are registering to vote in large enough numbers to swing a single voting district, okay?

I am fairly convinced the long term gameplan is to deliberately increase the per capital spending on healthcare to the point the American people finally capitulate and accept universal healthcare.

The goal of bending down the cost curve was a hoax. A total hoax. And the left drank that bongwater down by the barrelful.

.

g5000, the left did this knowingly, once the conservatives in the dems balked. Yeah, the dems will run the tap until UHC becomes the law of the land.

Um, did anyone watch the video? Morris is claiming that:

If you make $250K:

your tax rate will go from 35% to 40% equaling $12,500/yr.tax increase;
now you pay SS taxes on the first $106K, that will change to apply to your entire income, equaling approx. $8K/yr;
state and local tax deduction will be eliminated, equaling approx $7,500;
no more being able to deduct your mortgage interest, equaling various losses (his example loss was about $8K/yr);
total increase in taxes: approx. $40,000/yr.
40% increase in taxes if you make $250K or more

If you make less than $250K (his example was $150K) you will have to pay approx $15K more in taxes/yr with the changes.

If you sell your home and make more than $250K on it you will not be allowed to exempt yourself from the capital gains tax, which will be raised from 15% to 30%.

According to Morris this stuff is in legislation Obama has filed, programs he's recommended, the Bowles-Simpson commission he appointed.

Is this what Bill Clinton was referring to when he said 'arithmetic'?

8-12 in Leavenworth for fraud, misappopriation of govt funds, RICOH Act violations: TO WIT: Use of federal funds,personnel and equipment for personal gain; 195 partisan fund raising trips; 105 personal trips for golf in excess of GSA Rules for government employees; Redirection of govt grants, subsidies and tax credits to members of organized crime in exchange for undisclosed remuneration and future benefits; perjury; illegal distribution of un-taxed alcohol without a license or necessary permits and inspections. And I'm just warmin' up!

As a matter of fact, yes.

The evidence is indisputable that aliens, both legal and illegal, are registering and voting in federal, state, and local elections. Following a mayor's race in Compton, California, for example, aliens testi*fied under oath in court that they voted in the elec*tion. In that case, a candidate who was elected to the city council was permanently disqualified from holding public office in California for soliciting non-citizens to register and vote. The fact that non-citizens registered and voted in the election would never have been discovered except for the fact that it was a very close election and the in*cumbent mayor, who lost by less than 300 votes, contested it.

Similarly, a 1996 congressional race in California may have been stolen by non-citizen voting. Republican incumbent Bob Dornan was defending himself against a spirited challenger, Democrat Lor*etta Sanchez. Sanchez won the election by just 979 votes, and Dornan contested the election in the U.S. House of Representatives. His challenge was dismissed after an investigation by the House Com*mittee on Oversight and Government Reform turned up only 624 invalid votes by non-citizens who were present in the U.S. Immigration and Nat*uralization Service (INS) database because they had applied for citizenship, as well as another 124 improper absentee ballots. The investigation, however, could not detect illegal aliens, who were not in the INS records.

There isn't going to be a second term for Barack Obama--:eusa_whistle: Currently he has a 60+ % disapproval rating on the way he's handled the economy and the deficit. All the pretty--perfectly pronounced speech's aren't going to save him from Americans voting their wallets.

They always do.

Here is a University of Colorado study--already calling this election for Mitt Romney--and their analysis has been right since 1980.
