Obama's Political Views in 1995

At the age of 30, I was an Independent who voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976. I lived through the gas lines and a terrible economy resulting in a recession. I worked a second job to make ends meet. His Foreign Policy was one of weakness evidenced by his handling of the Iranian Hostage Crisis.

I served in Vietnam as an Infantry Fire Team Leader from 1967-68. In 1977 Jimmy Carter granted amnesty to all Draft Dodgers. He expected this would start a healing process. It did not for me.

This was a slap in the face to those of us who served in Vietnam and a flagrant disrespect for those who made the Supreme Sacrifice and their families.

I learned valuable lessons in regard to the type of person who I would vote for in the next Presidential Election. I voted for Ronald Reagan. During Reagan's first term, I became and still remain a Republican.
