Obama's not coming to get your guns! What now?

Here's what the President has recommended Congress do and what he will do through Executive action and Orders.

As you can see...he's not coming to get your guns. In spite all the anguish, weeping, wailing and predictions of dire days ahead, he's actually proposing very little which is new. In fact, you might even say this response is a little tepid and it has disappointed the most rabid gun grabbers.

What say you now? Will you apologize for all the manure you've spread, for all the lies you've told, for bombarding us with your facile, simplistic, ideologically driven conspiracy theories?

i thought not. After all...it's STILL Obama....ain't it?

To be done by executive action:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Requests for congressional action:

Require criminal background checks for all gun sales. (a.k.a. closing the "gun show loophole.")

Reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban.

Restore the 10-round limit on ammunition magazines.

Protect police by finishing the job of getting rid of armor-piercing bullets.

Give law enforcement additional tools to prevent and prosecute gun crime.

End the freeze on gun violence research.

Make our schools safer with more school resource officers and school counselors, safer climates, and better emergency response plans.

Help ensure that young people get the mental health treatment they need.

Ensure health insurance plans cover mental health benefits.

does this include Gang Bangers and Organized crime?......just wondering.....

If a person is deemed to be mentally incompetent to own a weapon shouldn't they be deemed ineligible to vote?

I called it.........nothing but right wing fear mongering. They like to fan the fires and get their base all riled up.

Was it fear-mongering? Joe Biden started it by saying the President could take action on gun control by using Executive Order.

I'm telling you, all this nonsense we are subjected to everyday is nothing but a huge social experiment gone wrong :)

Tell that to law abiding NYers.

Reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban.

Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:
• Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms;
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more military characteristics; and
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
• Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test;
o Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test; and
o Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans.

• Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
• Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes; and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.
• Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.

Yeah? So what? How would that be the end of the world and how would it be any different from what the owners of fully-automatic weapons have to do now?

I don't know. Do you have some objection to making sure those already prohibited by law from having a gun aren't finding some way to get them or, worse yet, being issued concealed carry licenses?

I called it.........nothing but right wing fear mongering. They like to fan the fires and get their base all riled up.

Was it fear-mongering? Joe Biden started it by saying the President could take action on gun control by using Executive Order.

That was only scary to the low information voters who don't know anything about how their government works and/or don't understand the Constitution.

That can't be right. You just described 3/4ths of Obamas supporters.

Here's what the President has recommended Congress do and what he will do through Executive action and Orders.
The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms shall not be infringed.

You know OldGuy, you took an Oath to Uphold and Defend the Constitution of the United States. When are you gonna' actually start doing that? :confused:

What's un-Constitutional about what the President has proposed?

Executive Orders are not un-Constitutional unless they violate the Constitution or existing law. In fact, President's have used them many, many times without challenge by those who know something about the Constitution, the separation of powers and the duties of the Executive Branch. Ronald Reagan issued more than 300 of them. Was he a dictator too?

Executive Orders are not un-Constitutional unless they violate the Constitution or existing law.
Executive Orders are only supposed to Clarify Existing Law, not make NEW ones.

Ronald Reagan also gave Amnesty to about 1 million illegals. Am I supposed to like Amnesty as a result? Don't give me that childish "Republicans do it to!" bullshit! Fuck you, wrong is wrong.

Here's the text of every single, solitary Executive Order issued by Barack Obama. I defy you to show me one...just one...which creates new law.

Remember when Liberals cared about Medical Records being kept secret? Remember that?

Now they're gonna' look in to your medical records and see what drugs you've been taking or currently taking and disqualify you that way.

Every one of them.

Ever heard of "Separation of Powers"? The Congress passes a Bill, the President Signs it into Law, and the Courts are supposed to determine if those Laws are Constitutional.

Bypassing Congress puts too much power in the Executive, unless you wanna' be a Dictator Like Obama obviously does.

Our System of Government is setup to prevent the very thing Obama is doing now!
