What 'Gutsy Call'?: CIA Memo Reveals Admiral Controlled bin Laden Mission

Admiral-Special-ops-may-expand-role-6QV5MP4-x-large.jpg

Obama simply gave the go-ahead and was prepared to throw Adm William H. McRaven under the bus if anything when wrong. What was labelled a gusty call turns out to be barely a nod from a President that at the same moment was prepared to cast blame on the man put in charge of the mission using him in typical Obama fashion as a fall-guy.

How many of you even know who this guy is? Well, if proper credit had been given you would have known a lot about the man who took control of the mission and saw it through to it's successful conclusion. He should have been the one to make the announcement that Bin Laden was ether killed or captured.

During Desert Storm we became familiar with Gen Norman Schwartzkopf giving regular mission statements. George H. W. Bush allowed the General to take some of the glory. This is what good leaders do. Obama would have none of it. Instead he rushed in front of the cameras and hogged all of the glory for himself. The real heroes were essentially an after-thought. It would have been quite a different story if the mission had imploded and been a disaster similar to the failed Desert One debacle that took place just over 32 years ago in the desert sands of Tabas, Iran.

President Obama made the right call to give the green light to the mission. But he did it in a way that he could shift the blame if things went wrong. Typical Obama. And typical of him to claim full credit for it, when he didn’t do anything but give a vague nod, while putting his top military officials at risk of taking the hit in case of a bad turn. What 'Gutsy Call'?: CIA Memo Reveals Admiral Controlled bin Laden Mission

This now famous photo in the White House war-room was simply a publicity photo taken during the wrap up of the mission. Notice Obama almost hiding because the final word on the mission was still pending. Everyone who was anyone showed up for this photo-op which surely would not have been released had the mission gone bad.

Any questions?

Obama is like cellophane, you can see right through him. He did not get osama, the navy seals did. But isn't it typical of obama to try take the credit. He will now use this as a way to make himself look good for election time. Like the article said, obama merely gave a nod to go ahead. That is all he did. He did not find osama, and he did not kill osama, and nor does he get the credit. Its just laughable that obama tryings using this as a campaign issue to make himself look good, when he doesn't even get the credit. Even if osama had been found during the bush administration and killed, the seals would have still gotten the credit not bush. And bush would have given the credit to them, unlike obama.

.

Had Bush been the one, the GOP would still be screaming from the mountaintops, pounding their chest, shouting "Bush! Bush! USA! USA!". I'd love to see a denial of THAT. The President is like the quarterback; he gets the blame and the credit. Too bad.

.

His face would have been on Mount Rushmore. Look at the treatment Reagan gets from the right.

He was an unmitigated disaster as a President.

Check out the Constitution.

The President of the United States is Commander in Chief of the armed forces. He sets the policy for the military..not the other way around.

Reagan was a fantastic President; was precisely the right man at the right time.

Not from you.

The original Bin Laden group was disbanded...but as your link says the search for him continued. The "Alec Station" unit, which was founded back in 1996, was disbanded and new units formed.

It helps when you read your own supporting links.

Alec Station was founded in 1996, taking its name from the son of Michael Scheuer, the unit's former director. Its two dozen members worked in rented premises outside the CIA headquarters.

The rationale for the restructuring:

Since 9/11, the original al-Qaida has spawned dozens of regional affiliates from Indonesia to Iraq. Terrorism experts believe that Bin Laden and his Egyptian lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, no longer exercise centralised control over international jihad, although they continue to offer inspiration with audio tape messages and other more secret communications.

Gotta agree.

Barry had the balls to make the call. Bush would have done the same.

Kudo's to Barry for having those balls.

The SEALS did the actual takedown but they couldn't have done it without that nod from the CIC.

Ford is alive too.......no thanks to Obama.

GM was just a clandestine union benefit bailout. How many billions went to prop up the UAW in that deal?

So by that measure he should shoulder the blame for every misstep by the military.

Why isn't he taking the blame for their actions in Columbia? You know, the Secret Service debacle in Cartagena? All of the offenders fall under UCMJ?

Answer: He believes in double-standards.

Obama would have dumped this mission like a bad habit if it had gone wrong.

Had Bush been the one,

The point is, he WAS the one.

Owebama would have killed off the program and tactics Bush put in place.

Holy crap, I thought Obama was in office when bin Laden's head exploded! So Bush was the one who got him!

Hey, thanks for the clarification!

This is why I enjoy this board.

I don't understand all this "credit" that Obama deserves.
What was to be decided, whether to drop a missile on his ass
or to send ground forces.
This was a no brainer.
Once Bin Laden was found what choice was there to make.
Any President would have done this.

There was nothing balsy about it.

Obama knew he had most of the media's support.

He would never be made to face up to the mission if it had failed. They simply would have made up any number of excuses why it wasn't his fault. They would have said he was really mad about how it went wrong. He would have said he was given assurances that Bin Laden was there, that the mission would have a high probability of success which eventually proved to be false. He would have fired a bunch of people and started over from scratch. The people in charge where essentially all Bush people anyway.

That would have been his response.

Actually Bush was the one....He's the one that put everything in place to track Bin Laden, he had people in place searching for him long ago. So Bush said "he wasn't concerned" about him because he had people taking care of it, so he could concentrate on other things here at home. But the left take that as he just didn't care...lol! If Obama could have gotten away with it i think he would have dismantled the whole operation.

Come on, you're not naive. I'll say it again - had Bush been the one to get him, the Right would be giving him all the credit. He would have been The Hero. That's the way it works. You're not denying that, are you?
