What I am asking you is to explain why gas prices were so low when Obama took office to begin with.

Okay, 42 gallons. So at $105, that is $2.50 a gallon. Oil would have to be $84 a barrel to get it to $2.00 per gallon if the oil companies are willing to extract it, transport it, refine it, re-transport it, and then sell it for free.

What is the plan to get it to $84 a barrel?

Gasoline is just one product of the refining process. Oil is used for.....well almost everything. Let's get this out the way. IN that same link I posted earlier, the passage went on to state that one 42 Gal barrel yields 19 gallons of gas.
Take a look around the room in which you are sitting. Try to give a rough count of all of the items in that room that are NOT made or do NOT consist of some type of petro-chemical product or derivative. Chances are you'll be hard pressed to find a single thing.
All of this nonsense Obama is spewing about alternative fuel, using less gas and getting us off oil is bullshit. There is not now nor will there be a viable alternative to petroleum in the foreseeable future.
Obama is anti fossil fuel for purely political reasons. His own words were that he was disturbed about how rapidly gas rose to $4 per gallon, not the fact that IT IS $4 per gallon.
Energy Sec'y Steven Chu ha been quoted as saying the US Government needs to find a way to increase gas prices to the levels seen in Europe.
The fact is these people WANT gasoline ot be expensive. The point is if energy is expensive, the economy will suffer, people will become unable to afford to go to work, basic human needs will become more expensive. All these things result in the ultimate goal of this Administration, that is to create more dependency on government.

Yes political reasons. Obama must solidify his base. Part of that base are environmentalists, activists and those who think by not throwing a gum wrapper out of their car window but own SUV's to schlep their little cupcakes to soccer practice.
He needs their vote. They are easily led people who hear "get us off oil" or "big oil" and that is enough for them.
If you are not intelligent enough to realize this, don't make it obvious.
