Obama stretched out his schedule for withdrawing troops from Iraq. During the debate, Obama said we could "reduce" the number of combat troops in 16 months:

Obama: Now, what I've said is we should end this war responsibly. We should do it in phases. But in 16 months we should be able to reduce our combat troops, put – provide some relief to military families and our troops and bolster our efforts in Afghanistan so that we can capture and kill bin Laden and crush al Qaeda.

But in Oct. 2007, Obama supported removing all combat troops from Iraq
within 16 months
:

Obama (Oct. 2007): I will remove one or two brigades a month, and get all of our combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months. The only troops I will keep in Iraq will perform the limited missions of protecting our diplomats and carrying out targeted strikes on al Qaeda. And I will launch the diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives that are so badly needed. Let there be no doubt: I will end this war

Did Obama have anything to say about Bin Ladin claiming Iraq as a central front? So Iraq had nothing to do with Bin Ladin. Read the quote i found from Reuters.

Eye on the Ball? While Bin Ladin Urges...

Bin Laden Urged His Followers To Fight In Iraq, Which He Terms "The Nearest
Field Of Jihad Today." "Bin Laden added that Palestinians who are unable to
fight in the 'land of Al-Quds' a Muslim reference to Jerusalem should join the
al-Qaida fight in Iraq. 'The nearest field of jihad today to support our
people in Palestine is the Iraqi field,' he said." (Maamoun Youssef,
"Purported New Osama Bin Laden Audio Urges Holy War To Liberate Palestinian
Territories," The Associated Press, 3/20/08)

-- "[Bin Laden] Also Called On The People Of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan And Saudi
Arabia To 'Help In Support Of Their Mujahedeen Brothers In Iraq, Which Is The
Greatest Opportunity And The Biggest Task.'" (Maamoun Youssef, "Purported New
Osama Bin Laden Audio Urges Holy War To Liberate Palestinian Territories," The
Associated Press, 3/20/08)

You do realize things change as do the combat situations do?

If the Bush Administration haven't continued to fuck up things so badly with Iraq and Afghanistan then maybe Obama's plan could of came true.

We haven't caught Osama Bin Laden.

Iraq still has no major Military force, barely a Law enforcement.

Working water and electric is still a problem with both countries, the terrorists in Afghanistan are now stronger then EVER and everything else going on.

Obama can only do so much as a Senator.

Should be changed to Pakistan. They are so strong in Afghan yet why aren't they in control of that (Afghan) government?

They're in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan. They're border hopping to avoid the troops. OBAMA was the one to speak out against this last night, McCain avoided it.

And who's to say the terrorists in Afghanistan don't have any influence or control in the Gov't?

The drug trade is also worse in Afghanistan as they went from having little to no opium under the Taliban to the world's biggest opium supplier in the world.

Barack Obama: Change You Can Pay For!

What a really intelligent remark seeing as how we are now paying for Bush and Company's change from a democracy to plutocracy.

700 million dollar bailout and you have the balls to say we will pay under Obama.

Get a life.

Thanks for admitting what we already knew: Obama's support changes with the political winds.

Where would the world be if that retard were at the helm after the battle of Kasserine Pass?

What bailout? The one the dems insist the GOP sign on to because the dems rebuffed all efforts at oversight?

If you're so worried about plutocracy perhaps the dems should get rid of the Soros, Rockafellers, Buffetts and useless Hollyweirdos in their midst.

Or are you hoping to purchase your socialist revolution?

Your kidding right? McCain admitted that it took BOTH Republicans AND Democrats to get to the mess we are in, and it will take Republicans AND Democrats to get out of the mess we are in. But hey that would be real change. Let's just stick to pointing fingers and blaming the other party for every thing! Now that's the kinda Change you WILL keep paying for!

Bush calls for Congress to act, Congress listen. And what have we learned the last eight years? Why would Congress listen to Bush after the last eight years. So why is Obama following Bush's call to bailout these institutions. So what happened to this agent of change that is suppose to shift us away from the Bush's last eight years? If Bush was bad, why is Congress in a hurry to pass this bailout?

I was talking about long-term situations.

The greatest generals were the ones who adjusted and changed plans as the times, weapons, and situations did.

Patton and Eisenhower to name two for example.

Obama's support does not change with the political winds. He still wants us to relocate our troops from Iraq to Afghanistan where we always should of been, not Iraq. It's only the timeline in which the US will be able to do that which has changed.

this is NOT about me. and what exactly has changed since obama made his promise?

fact remains, obammy made a promise he can't keep. a promise you can't belive in. he is so full of HOPE he can't hear reality.

Things in Afghanistan have worsened since he's made that promise.

Things in Iraq have stayed the same for the most part since he's made that promise.

Things were suppose to change for the better in both countries, they haven't.
