Obama plans to expand overtime eligibility for millions of workers

It is amazing that we have a president who seems bent on making sure the way he feels things should be are the way they are.

Employees and employers existed long before him and will exist long after him. They've been doing well for a long time.

I've stated that I think we have a wage issue......but Obama is not the one to fix it.

They even existed before we had labor laws

Government stepped in to make sure workplaces were safe and that employees were fairly compensated for their labor

You want employees to give up their life for you? Pay them for it

Hard to believe we still have conservatives who oppose the 40 hour week

I am not a conservative.

Nobody said anything about a 40 hour work week.

You are a pro at making stuff up to argue against.

What do you think overtime is?

A far left fabrication.

Overtime is a fabrication?

Yep. Over what time?

I owe you no further response

Never said you did. Overtime is a made up concept. If you want to deny that, it's probably best you don't try to respond to my posts. You'd only embarrass yourself.

"overtime is a made up concept"

No further response is needed

A lot of overtime can be eliminated by cutting back hours and hiring lots of part timers to avoid being subject to Obamacare mandated purchases. Or by reducing staff through automating as many functions as possible.

Even by cutting hours. Sure that will reduce income but what good is income to a business if it's confiscated?

Yet you do respond.... could it be you're not so sure?

We understand you have no response.

It's O.K.

What is more interesting to me (anecdotally) is that most people I know who put in the big hours do so voluntarily. I work with people whose managers have to chase them out of the office (I'll bet left wingers can't fathom that).

Moving on.....

We do have a wage issue. That is clear in my mind. It is one I wish we could have an honest discussion on.

But when we have people who somehow feel that people are to stupid to look out for themselves in the conversation.....I am not sure where the conversation goes.

I am for upping the minimum wage to a higher level.

I am also for raising some taxes on the rich.

But only if the government cuts spending by some multiple of what is raised.

Worker, like myself, who have jobs should be grateful. It really helps the overall state of mind. When someone is telling me I should be billing for every minute, I feel differently.

I guess that's just me.

Employees can decide if they want to work at a business.

Don't like the deal...quit.

You can continue to show why your posts are not worth reading anymore.

In an equal and fair market they can, but the current economy is skewed heavily towards the employer. There are few jobs for people without some sort of in-demand specialist skills. When 5,000 people line up for 500 jobs at a shopping mall, workers have to take what they can get, and for employers, they pay the least amount possible under the law. If the worker doesn't like it, well there are 4500 people out there who will take the job.

For someone who is new around here, you're a real a$$hat. You don't know jack shit so stop acting like you're all that and a bag of peanuts.

And that is the key to these labor laws. When you have three people lined up to take a job, it is hard for an employee to complain about working conditions.

Keep the workers hungry and you can demand what you want

More of the victim card.

It's dripping on this thread.

Poor workers.

Unbelievable.
Yup ...poor workers

Looks like they have someone looking out for their rights.

Poor management

And what rights would those be ?

The right to look for another job ?

What management...? The guys who work 60 hours a week (but whom you complain about).

Nope, you are a made up intellect failing badly. The law clarifies what is and is not employment law. When you talk about, people laugh at you.

What a nice, generous man...with other people's money. Go away ya moron...you're a pain in the ass.
:) You don't get to any longer have worker put in more than 3120 hours yearly for less $24,000. If you can't pay decently without going out of business, then don't let the eviction agent close the door on your tail. Scoot, asshole.

Right to be compensated for your labor

Conservatives say too bad to the workers

Liberals say....too bad, pay them to management

There is nothing socialist about the change.

Geaux has an extremely limited vocabulary and understanding.

In a consumer economy, the more money the working consumers have to spend, everyone, including owners, are better off.

You've never heard of 'passing on the cost to the consumer' I take it

That's why you're a liberal with a limited understanding of economics

-Geaux

We know, everyone should have to work for $4 per hour and work 100 hours per week. That would be the great American way. You obviously are clueless to our history and how hard working Americans came to get better working conditions and higher pay. Had it not been for these positive changes, there would be only a very small middle class. Most Americans would be poor.

Its what conservatives call "building character"

It also ensures that the one percent remain the one percent

MYOB

From what I read it is only a proposal.

From the article:

Randy Johnson, a vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said Monday that making more employees eligible for overtime will lead to a drop in the number of full-time jobs and that some workers would lose benefits and opportunities for promotions.

"This change is another example of the administration being completely divorced from reality and adding more burdens to employers and expecting them to just absorb the impact," Johnson said in a statement.

Yes, this administration is working to get as many people out of full time work as possible.

Somebody must be making a mint off of food stamps.

They aren't working for free now.

If someone making 21 K wants to go from 60 to 40 hours....

Then they'll go from 21 K to 14 K.

Simple math.

Your claims to being a Republican become more and more ridiculous with each passing day.

Unfortunately for me, I happen to agree with your summary on this one.

While I generally agree it's unfortunate whenever someone agrees with a troll, I'd actually buy Jake as a Republican. He just makes no pretense to being a libertarian. His views, in all their authoritarian zeal, come closer to representing the values of the RNC than any faux news "freedom" spiel.
