Obama gets Jesus name removed.

There's no shortage of venues that could be chosen that are 'Jesus free.' To come onto a Catholic University campus and ask to have images 'covered' is rude. That the University acquiesced was wrong.

Had they not covered it up, conservatives would have bitched when they saw a picture of "The Messiah" with "IHS" over his head

"Obama's team" was a statement made by someone that had nothing to do with the event. Mr. Donahue criticized "the Obama Team", but he has absolutely no idea whose decision this was.

The same goes for "White House Staff" in your post. Fox News used the term "White House Staff" because they did not know who it was that made the request. I highly doubt the President is required to make all kinds of minor decisions about what kind of a backdrop he stands in front of during a speech.

I would even go so far as to wonder if they even asked them to cover the symbol specifically. Or did they simply say that they wanted him set up in this position and they needed a dark colored backdrop behind him. It seems that quite often when someone makes a speech like this they put a dark colored backdrop behind them. Not always, but quite often. Was this simply done for lighting and had nothing at all to do with "Iesus Hominum Salvator" translated Jesus Savior of Man on the wall behind him?

Immie

Not too mention that many of us non-Christians don't even know what 'IHS' stands for.

Actually, it does matter, because Obama:

1) Swore an oath on the Christian Bible, to the American People that he was:

2) A Christian, as he said he was all throughout his campaign.

So he swore an oath on the Christian Bible, that he was a Christian (and everything else he said he was in the campaign), but a Christian would never for ANY REASON deny Christ, period. And when you hide Jesus' name, you are denying Christ for some reason or another.

So what it means is Obama's a lying fuck and if we can't trust him when he says what religion he is what else can we trust him on?

No lobbyists in his administration? No.....
Ethical people in his administration...coughtaxdodgerscough
No new taxes? Hmm, already lost that one too. Gas tax hike, cigarette tax hike, and tried to move forward Cap and Trade.

The guy is a lying douche bag and a socialist, and I don't know what's worse, but I do know one thing.

The American people hate socialism.

The American people despise liars.

Obama is both. Bye bye hope and change.

First of all, when did Obama lay his hand on the Bible and say "I swear I am a Christian?" That's a little hard for me to believe. Not saying it isn't possible, but I'm too skeptical to believe it just because you say so.

And secondly, maybe Obama lost faith over the course of the past year? Seeing how Christianity can divide people instead of Uniting them: Palin, Rev. Wright, the Religious Right, etc. maybe he didn't think the Biblical God is the right one. Maybe he converted to secular humanism. How do you know?

Either way, you're coming across with a post like this as a rightwing, fundamentalist, nationalistic wacko.

Not too mention that many of us non-Christians don't even know what 'IHS' stands for.

It means 'Jesus' (Ihs (Monogram of Jesus) - Christian Symbols Illustrated Glossary) -- and Obama wanted it covered up.

The sad thing is that you wouldn't know the truth if it bit you on the ass, got lock-jaw and died.

Lots of people are not weak minded. Coming back from the dead isn't as popular as it once was.
This is YET ANOTHER fluffed up half baked non-issue that the RWNs smear machine twists and screams out, tries to make look important so they can get the weakminded
"We Want Him To FAIL!" crowd of pipsqueaks all OUTRAGED over. Faked puffed up outrage.
Its all they know how to do.

I swear, these folks spend every waking hour with their heads down, looking on the ground for any scrap of poop to throw at Obama and the Democrats. That's no way to live, people.
No wonder the Rightwing has nothing America wants. They spend all their time obsessed with making up petty attacks and being negative blabbers. That's why they absolutely SUCK at governing.

There has been No mention at all about the content of that speech, ya notice ?
They want all smallmnded people to be distracted from SUBSTANCE and to focus solely upon
fictitious slights and on mere imagery.
G20 conference - all they can think about is "the Bow".
Conference of American leaders in Trinidad. All they think about is is Obama shaking Chavez's hand.
Fake OUTRAGE over stupid stuff is an addiction to the RWNs.
Here's the good part:
They are a very small percentage of the population and of the electorate.
More and more, every time they pull this trick, their antics and pettiness repels America.
And more citizens shake their head and walk away, determined to have nothing to do with a group that is obsessed with such emptyheaded stupidity.

A final note: Obama and his team KNOWS that America is repelled by the RWN petty smear games,
he deliberately acts to push the Smear machine's button. He and his staff KNOW that when the RWNs get all worked up about stupid stuiff they embarass themselves and are reduced another peg.

Obama at Georgetown: No Jesuit seal : The Swamp
"In coordinating the logistical arrangements for yesterday's event, Georgetown honored the White House staff's request to cover all of the Georgetown University signage and symbols behind Gaston Hall stage," Julie Green Bataille, associate vice president for communications at Georgetown, told CNSNews.com.

Gaston Hall.jpg

"The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they've done for other policy speeches," she said. "Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn't high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context."

The White House says that it simply wanted a backdrop for the president's speech consistent with his other appearances: Flags and drapes.

"Decisions made about the backdrop for the speech were made to have a consistent background of American flags, which is standard for many presidential events,'' a White House spokesman, Shin Inouye, said today. "Any suggestions to the contrary are simply false."

Then why choose a Catholic college for his venue then ask them to cover up what it is they stand for . . . Jesus? Why didn't they choose a different college or move the damn teleprompter so nothing had to be covered??

Yeah, because they couldn't have moved the position. :cuckoo:

Um, I've never been to this particular venue, have you?

I would be willing to guess that it is in the middle of the front of the venue... about center stage. Would you put the President in the corner or the back of the room?

Well maybe you would... :cuckoo:

I must admit though that I always thought it represented the sign Pilate had placed on the cross over Jesus' head...

Matthew 27
36And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. 37Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38Two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left

Sorry, not buying it Immie. Put him in the back? No. Move him to the side, pan the cameras down so the IHS didn't show, leave the IHS showing, choose a different place other than a religious college? Yeah.

If this was done for 'lighting purposes' you'd think those shiny, reflective wood doors behind him would have needed to be covered in black as well.

I've yet to read why this request was made and for the life of me can not figure out why the college complied.

Again, whoever asked to have the host 'cover up' anything, was rude. If they felt that necessary, they could go down the block to George Washington University, problem solved. Seems Georgetown though went along with them, bad move.

I think you have jumped to conclusions that are not supported by the facts as have been given. There is absolutely no proof that President Obama had anything to do with the request... although, you will note, that I have not once claimed that he did not. Simply that there is no proof that he did.

They only need a small area for the backdrop for close-ups. They do not need the entire wall covered up.

I have not seen anything that said why the request was made either. Just a lot of silly right wing bitching and moaning that he did it because he is not a Christian. None of which can be backed up with evidence. We can speculate on why it was done, but to date the only "proof" we have is unsubstantiated claims that it was done at the President's request because he is not Christian.

Again, whoever asked to have the host 'cover up' anything, was rude. If they felt that necessary, they could go down the block to George Washington University, problem solved. Seems Georgetown though went along with them, bad move.

Agreed and I said so earlier, but we don't know who that "whoever" refers to. It may very well have had nothing to do with the President and/or it may very well have been a perfectly innocent request by someone not even knowing what IHS meant. Could have!

The WH requested it; Obama is the leader in the WH. Obviously our opinions differ on this.

I've never claimed he was or wasn't a Christian. I find it extremely odd that a speech at a Catholic College would be set then the WH would request the college to cover up the symbol of Jesus, who is the core of Catholicism.

Again, whoever asked to have the host 'cover up' anything, was rude. If they felt that necessary, they could go down the block to George Washington University, problem solved. Seems Georgetown though went along with them, bad move.

The COLLEGE knows what IHS means! Shame, shame on them for their cowardice. And if the WH requester didn't know what IHS meant at a Catholic college . . . why didn't they ask?

I'm angry that the college complied with this request . . . whatever the reasons were for it.

This is like saying that because my employee passed gas in the employee lunch room that I am responsible for it. ;)

I don't know everthing my employees do and I am not responsible for them doing it. I work in accounting. If a person that I hired and who worked under me, embezzled a million dollars (I was not a part of the crime itself) would I be responsible for the embezzlement?

No, you never did claim that. It was the premise of the opening article that claimed that.

While I am not angry with the college complying with the request as I don't know how it was made, I do agree that the college should not have succumbed to the request unless they believed it was made in a manner as to not be anti-Christian.

For instance, I am going under the potential idea that this request was not to "cover up" the symbol but rather to have a back drop behind the President that was in fact between the President and the symbol when the cameras faced the President. In other words, the request was "We want the President to stand here and about six feet behind him we want a black drape for lighting purposes". The requester not even realizing that the symbol was ten feet behind the location of the President. So in fact, there was never an attempt to actually cover up the symbol, but rather put a back drop behind the President.

Now, I realize that Fox News reports this as a direct request by the White House to cover up the symbol, but, just because a news agency reports it thus, doesn't make it so... IMHO, not even Fox. I also recognize that Mr. Donahue is angry that the "Obama Team" requested it be covered up. Who is this Mr. Donahue and was he part of the preparation for the speech?

Those are a couple of alternatives that I can reasonably come up with as to why President Obama had nothing to do with the issue.

In other words, I'm feeling a lot of false outrage and political grandstanding over the issue and I have fallen for that before. I'd rather not eat that crow again. :D So, I'm erring on the side of caution this time.

I don't exactly trust those who say the White House did this terrible deed.

They are puffing as much fartgas into another non-issue to give themselves the illusion that they are good and Obama is bad.

It s all the RWNs live for. All they are capable of doing, these days.
And it is why they have been voted out of political power.

They better get another game, 'cos this one isn't gonna attract the new voters they will need to hold on to whatever political power they have in the next election. America expects more, and will repudiate the GOP once again.

Unfortunately, I could be considered one of those "they", but I agree this is one of those issues that won't win them any votes. In fact, it would more than likely cost them votes if it were anywhere near an election.

I also agree, they need a new game or maybe an old one, but trying to beat democrats at their own game is not going to be a winning ticket either.

I am suggesting the GOP try to unplug their smear machine for a bit - constant poop throwing at Obama over petty stuff is hurting their image, BIG time, and wasting energy.
They need to start offerring up solutions and show themselves to be interested in America getting better.
Selling "NO!" and "Obstruction is good Policy!" to American voters in 2010 will be impossible, even if Obama 's policies aren't working as planned.

The American Peanut Corporation (that shipped all the salmonella poison product)
can't regain customers by embarking on a rigid campaign to smear and nitpick and bad mouth their competition, calling the other peanut companies Crappy.
Who would recommend such a marketting camapign ?
Apparently, the 2009 GOP leadership, the ones who inheritted the operation that damaged our entire nation.
The GOP needs to offer up a little contrition, accept responsibility, and to give America a positive image and positive plans, or voters will not even listen.
They need to do a 180, or will be reduced to being a longterm small minorty.
