Maybe Hoffman shouldn't have conceded?

A recanvass shows the gap closing to 3,000 votes with 10,000 Absentee ballot to go!

A Third Party Candidate closes to within 3,000 votes!

Not so fast! Recanvass gives Hoffman hope in NY-23

A recanvassing of votes cast in the highly contested NY-23 race shows that the 5,335-vote lead once enjoyed by Rep.-for-now Bill Owens, the Democrat, has narrowed to about 3,000 with another 10,000 absentee ballot uncounted.

Owens, who was sworn in last week, was one of 220 Dems to vote give the majority a narrow victory on health care reform.

Yes there are still a lot of Absentee Ballots not counted yet. Hoffman did concede too quickly. Lets see what happens. It could get interesting.

Politics is a game played by rules. And the most important rule regarding close elections is that you don't win by being conciliatory during the recount process. Indeed, the only way a candidate who trails on election night ends up taking the oath of office is by refusing to concede and then confidently demanding that every vote be counted -- even when the opposition, the media and the courts turn against you. Hoffman must concede!!

How can the Dems call the Conservative Party their third Column in the RNC if Hoffman refuses to concede?

My gosh--you really think the conservative party is legitimate don't you? After all the MSM and liberal press that was thrown to Hoffman? Come on!!

Sabotage the "Get rid of Reid, Pelos, iand Obama express 2010" operation is well under way.

Now we just need Steele to act like he knows what he is doing--a little propaganda and the Dems have a clean sweep and a socialist mandate to push on the right wingers for the next 6 years!!! Bwa-ha hahaha!!

I wonder how absentee ballots could help Hoffman, though. I mean, given that the nominal GOP candidate dropped out just a few days BEFORE the actual election day, my guess would be that votes not going for Owens would be going to Scuzzyfavabeans, not to Hoffman.

I don't believe the premature concession would bar Hoffman from taking his rightful seat if it worked out that way.

And, btw, wouldn't this mean that the UHC "bill" got one extra vote from a NON-elected and NON-official Congresscritter?

From your first link Frank:

UPDATE: Josh Kraushaar, who has been following this closely, says Conservative Party boss Mike Long thinks Owens is going to win at the end of the day -- because only about 5,400 absentees have been returned.

Better luck next time.

They will steel it like they did in Minnisota and that Franken bum. Can anyone say the magic work "ACORN"

The (near) impossible math for Hoffman
About 10,200 absentee and military ballots were sent out to districtwide voters, but only about 5,400 have been returned, according to the paper. Military ballots can still be received up until next Monday..

That would mean that Hoffman would have to win around 80 percent of the outstanding absentee votes, a near-statistical impossibility. (And that’s not taking into account the three-way dynamic of the race – Dede Scozzafava likely received a disproportionate share of absentee votes cast before she dropped out of the race.)

Furthermore, Hoffman's campaign had no early get-out-the-vote program designed to get supporters to vote by absentee ballot.

I'll direct your attention to Bush v Gore.
