New York City Had Its First Weekend Without A Shooting In 25 Years

"A city of 8.6 million people — not a single shooting for three days," Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday, according to CNN. "Let's thank the NYPD for what they've achieved."
Funny that crazies always point to gun control laws.

We have very strict muder laws has that curbed murder? We have very strict fraud, kidnapping, stealing laws has any of that stopped? We have laws against illegal drugs, even a war on drugs, how many drugs are now unavailable?

Nothing changes because of laws. Criminals are till going to do what they think they can do. Sweden has very strict gun laws yet they are fighting the import by criminals of fully automatic weapons and hand grenades.
Great Britain has always had very stringent gun laws, yet people are still shot and London has now been forced to ban knives in public.

Detroit has strong anti gun laws. How well has that worked out? But for the first time New York City has a few days without a shooting and some one calls for gun bans as if the laws that have been on the books for years suddenly created a gun free utopia.

very stupid to bring up GB or London as a PRO-gun argument--

the murder rate does not indicate the effectiveness of gun control...Britain had a 42% increase in Gun Crime last year in London......and a 23% increase across England and Wales..... that means that criminals in Britain can get illegal guns....and they are using them...

They are not murdering their victims...why is it so hard for you guys to understand that dynamic?

They have illegal guns.

They use illegal guns for crime.

They do not commit murder as often....yet. That is already changing.
murder rate FOUR times lower

---how do you explain a very diverse city--with a much higher density with over 8 million people--have 300 murders vs a city with 320,000 and 200 murders?????????
..if not gun control --then what??
..NYC has a shitload more of nuts/crazies/etc

St. Louis doesn't have gun crime because of law abiding gun owners.....they have gun crime because democrats don't care about crime in minority neighborhoods.....

The idea to put violent criminals in prison for 15 years for non fatal shootings and 25 years for fatal shootings, will be voted down by the democrats...they need the violent criminals on the streets shooting people....in order to push gun control....

Japan keeps the Yakuza from using guns by doing the exact same thing....long prison sentences for gun criminals...but they don't have a political party that gets more power as they release violent criminals back into the streets....

Violence down in St. Louis but homicides hold steady. Are tougher penalties for gun crimes the answer?

But many challenges remain, official said. The department is still down more than 130 officers. Witnesses to crimes remain reluctant to come forward for fear of retaliation, making it difficult to close cases. And a lack of state laws to deter gun crimes has forced the police to turn to federal courts to indict some suspects.

On Tuesday, Edwards made a new pitch: He wants to see the mandatory minimum sentence for armed criminal action raised from its current ceiling of three years to at least 15 years for nonfatal shootings, and 25 years for fatal shootings.

I showed you....the democrat politicians in St. Louis let violent gun criminals out on bail and out of jail.......

Do you think it is normal, law abiding gun owners doing the shooting? Do you think those murders are done by people who can get their guns legally?

You really don't understand the dynamic do you? Baltimore is just as bad and they have extreme gun control....and democrats in charge...

I told you in the other post....actually putting violent gun criminals in prison for 15 and 25 years will not fly with democrats...they need them on the streets shooting people so dupes like you will give them power to ban guns...

Some aldermen expressed concern over that proposal: over its potential effectiveness, if it would lead to higher numbers of incarcerated people, or if it would disproportionately target poor, marginalized communities. Edwards argued it would be applied “irrespective of one’s station in life,” and only to those who intended to do harm with a gun.

I have studies that show that law abiding gun owners do help lower the crime rate.....but that isn't the issue here....

The issue is that law abiding gun owners are not driving the murder rate....... criminals, with criminals records that keep them from buying, owning or carrying guns....under existing laws....are doing the shooting...showing that gun control laws will not stop them.

The only thing that will bring down the gun crime rate? Long prison sentences for the gun criminals in St. Louis...and the democrats will not allow that to happen.

Our homicide rate is 4-5x that of countries with strong gun control. Strangely a lack of dangerous weapons everywhere seems to lower homicides.
And yet countries like Greenland still have higher homicide rates then we do.
Here Are The Homicide Rates For Countries Around The World Funny I was not aware that Greenland had such a lack of dangerous weapons.
They have a population of 56k, are you serious?
Other countries are equal or higher then ours. Are you really serious that you think criminals will somehow follow a gun ban? Tell me some story that explains how Detroit and other cities that have strict gun laws are now gun death free. Tell me a story about how New York City is going to suddenly become gun death free.
See the OP.
So let's see we are throwing out any place that does not have a high enough population. We are throwing out every city that has not had at least a few days without a shooting. If New York City has more shootings then of course it is going to have to be forgotten. What else do we need to throw out so that it fits your narrative?

Or is it just that you really just have no idea what you are talking about?

And London just recently had a higher murder rate then New York City. So since they have very stringent gun laws how did that happen? Why did they recently ban knives in public? Why it was due to the stupid idea that gun laws will stop murders. Perhaps just perhaps people that want to murder will use anything even their hands if necessary.

Not one of those things keeps guns out of the hands of criminals..... in fact...Baltimore, Chicago, D.C. all have those same gun laws....and have higher gun murder rates.....

So... nothing you just posted actually stops criminals from getting illegal guns.... you know what is just as effective as those gun laws..... Pixie Dust...if you sprinke pixie dust in your state, it also lowers the gun murder rate the same way those gun laws do........ and it is a lot cheaper....

Thank you Rudy Guiliani for setting up a system that even deblasio hasn't been able to wreck yet, even though he is trying....

Yes a lack of guns seems to help people murder less.

Nothing you posted is true, factual or based in reality.... more guns = less crime....that is a fact.

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 17.25 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2018...guess what happened...

-- gun murder down 49%

--gun crime down 75%

--violent crime down 72%

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.
US has by far the most guns in the world. Our homicide rate is 4-5x higher than countries with strong gun control.

Oddly enough, I have seen it shown here many times that such claims are inflated by including just a few very small areas. Take them away, all liberal strongholds with heavy gun control, and our gun crime figures drop precipitously. That said, if gun control is so effective, what is it doing for Detroit and DC? I'll say it again--- you can never eliminate all the guns, so far better to teach gun safety and responsibility. People taught to respect guns generally are your lowest instance of gun violence. Gun violence has risen in direct proportion to the Lefts efforts to make them an object of unavailability, restriction, scorn, fear and hate.

These idiots like Brain Dead can never answer the simple questions as to why the murder rate in the UK is higher than it was before all their gun laws started being passed in the 60's

And they will not answer the question as to why the state with some of the laxest gun laws in the country has a lower murder rate than the state with the the strictest gun laws in the country
The U.K. never had a huge gun problem, They stopped it from becoming a big problem. We didn’t try to stop it and our homicide rate is 4x higher than theirs.

The UK's murder rate was LOWER BEFORE THEY PASSED THEIR GUN LAWS

If you were right ( and you're not) then the murder rate would be lower AFTER gun laws were passed

The Brady Bill, which created a waiting period for handgun purchases and background checks, became law in 1993. The Assault Weapons Ban, which prohibited the sale of some semi-automatic weapons, expired in 2004 after 10 years on the books. In a February, 2007 interview Giuliani was asked about them both and said: "I was in favor of it because I thought that it was necessary both to get the crime bill passed and also necessary with the 2,000 murders or so that we were looking at," annually in New York City at the time.

If gun laws lower the murder rate then how come NH has a lower murder rate than CA despite having some of the most lax gun laws in the country?
CA has several of our largest cities.
So what?

Are you saying population density is the cause of murder rates ?

I forgot that you do not understand rates and ratios

The murder rate in NH was 1 per 10000 in 2017
The murder rate in CA was 4.6 per 100000 in 2017

CA has a higher murder RATE than does NH despite its strict gun laws

So how can you tell me gun laws reduce the murder rate?

They have a lot less homicides.

Freedom isn’t good for much if your dead.

Being alive in a cage isn't much either

Life is risk

If only the whole country had strong NYC gun control.

But for the first time New York City has a few days without a shooting and some one calls for gun bans as if the laws that have been on the books for years suddenly created a gun free utopia.
it makes the murder rate go down a lot!!
France, Germany, England murder rate many times lower
you DON'T want the murder rate to go down??

Great Britain murder rate FOUR times lower than the US
very stupid to bring up GB or London as a PRO-gun argument--

gun laws do not lower murder rates

if they did then the state with the strictest gun laws in the country would have the lowest murder rate but the opposite is true and it is the state with the some of the laxest gun laws in the country that has the lowest murder rate

the murder rate does not indicate the effectiveness of gun control...Britain had a 42% increase in Gun Crime last year in London......and a 23% increase across England and Wales..... that means that criminals in Britain can get illegal guns....and they are using them...

Our murder rate is driven by inner city violence.

70% of all murders in this country occur in very small parts of just 5 counties. All of these murder islands exist in depressed inner city areas that are centers for illegal drugs, gangs and other crimes and violence

We have a cancer in our inner cities that is skewing our murder rates

???????!!!!!!!!!!!????????
MOST dangerous city
murder capital
you make no sense
we've been over how gun owners do NOT stop crime--that's ridiculous
no gun owner is obligated to stop crime.
