Nancy Pelosi wants to lower voting age to 16...

If you can be drafted into the fucking military when you're 18,
I don't see a problem with 16 being the driving and voting age.
Only Republicans hate the idea -- I wonder why.

Just another idea from the left. If they had their way, it would be all non english illegal immigrants and 10 year olds.

Just my humble opinion.

I am okay with it.

If you are old enough to drive a car - and you are in most states - you are old enough to vote.

It seems pretty silly to allow a 16 year old to legally drive a two ton vehicle at roughly 1/10'th the speed of sound on public roads...yet we don't allow them to vote?

And forget the notion they are too ignorant. With the internet - I bet you the average 16 year old knows 10 times more about the world then most people here over 50 did at 18.

Naaa...give 'em the vote.

There is no justification in these times for allowing 16 year olds to vote. The average 16 year old public school victim is no more than a barely-functional moron.

Yeah, right. Turn off the internet and see how much they know.

Anyone below 25 should not vote in the current environment. Most people even over 25 were not allowed to vote when America was set up - not as a Democracy... and certainly not as a country where kids are making important decisions.

Of course the left wants to lower the age to 16, they are always acting like a bunch of children. No wonder the kids would vote for them. Just promise them some free candy and it's a done deal.

Keep it at 18. If one is old enuff to register for the selective service one has earned the right to be able to vote. We can send them into battle but won't let them vote? How dumb. Really dumb.

If a 16 year old is barely functioning it surely isn't the kid or the parents....nope. they have no skin in the game. It has to be someone else's fault.

I have three teenage grandsons. One is a history buff but application to todays politics is not there yet and the other two can tell you all the songs on youtube but that is it. And all are bright...So, I say a resounding NO.

Not the worst idea I’ve ever heard.

While I’m against it myself…I think there is a valid argument that could be made to have the youth voting especially since we have a President who runs up trillion plus dollar yearly deficits that will have to be paid for by the youth…at some point.

LMAO. Until you can serve you cannot vote

Fair point. Can the physically handicapped still vote? What about the elderly?

No, we are going to raise the voting age to 30 and then youll have to learn how to convince bread winners to give up their hard earned money for all your dumbass social projects.
National Parks, roads and bridges, schools, clean water and breathable air, affordable healthcare, and veterans hospitals...social projects are stupid.
Haha, you think those are social programs! Haha, youre dumb! Your stupidity amuses me.
Why don't take a minute out of your tricky day and enlighten me, oh holy one ?
Welfare! Thats the one that killed black culture and created tremendous poverty.

Yeah because all black people are on welfare.
I can understand why you think all black people are on welfare, but that isnt actually the case. The truth is, 42% of them receive government assistance.

Can you imagine how much worse our schools will be with hateful little leftist teachers pressuring their students to vote “D”?

It's a terrible idea. Children should not be able to vote.
Well maybe for class "officials"........ :D

Not even that. Why teach them to be corrupt politicians in their tender years?

Well...that's only a few degrees more totalitarian than where we are now.

I'm sure that if they could get by with it, democrats would have first graders voting. Just promise them free candy and soda pop.

I said 'knew more about the world'...not history. You don't need to know history to vote (though it helps). But you DO need to know about the present.
And every teenager I know knows a TON more then most of my friends when I was in high school.

But besides all that...general knowledge is not a prerequisite for voting. You could live under a rock your entire life and still be eligible to vote.

And if a 16 year old can produce and raise a child and drive a car and fly a plane (which they can legally) then they can vote. It is - no offense - ridiculous to allow a 16 year old to do all that...but say they cannot vote.

It takes a HELL of a lot more knowledge and responsibility to fly a plane then it does to vote. I have flown a plane - I know.

What are the main thoughts of a 16 year old?
1. Getting a car
2. Getting a date
3. Going to college (most)
4. Getting a job so he can get 1,2,3
5. Avoiding doing chores at home
6. Going out with friends and experiencing drinking, smoking and some (drugs)
7. Avoiding their parents

So how do you think they would vote? The party of personal responsibility making our society strong and free or socialist values that requires little of the citizen but giving him free (but limited) free college, free insurance, free healthcare...conning him into taking from the government while later in life it means getting less out of life because everything is taxed to the extreme and the goal of making a good living has been taken away.

Have you ever been to university? I have.

You know what most of the guys I knew during freshmen year did/thought about (all of whom were over 18)?

1) Get laid.
2) Get high/drunk.
3) Play/watch sports.
4) Do just enough school work to get a decent GPA (and that was hardly any work at all).
5) Play video games/musical instruments.
6) Get laid.
7) Get drunk/stoned.
8) Get laid.

I guarantee you the average freshman male in American university is a HELL of a lot less responsible then the average 16 year old in American high school.
For one, simple reason. Most high school students live at home and usually have to live with their parents rules. Most freshmen in university are on their own for the first time and want to PARTY AND HAVE FUN!!!

I sort of agree with her, maybe not 16 but 17, while still in high school, when they are taking their civics class, or studying American History... it is when the interest is there, and if we get them to actually vote for their first time while in high school, and teach the importance of it, it could make more responsible adults and citizens.

My only fear is that we may mess it up... and end up bringing the divisive part of it, in to our high schools... and we need that, like a hole in the head!

Boedicca, what is your ideal un-socialist government? In terms of government responsibility, what would you like to see? How would roads, bridges, dams, food/drug inspections etc be funded? Would 'eminent domain' be legal? Or military used as police? If you are thinking of powerful iron-fisted leadership over governance that provides military power only, maybe Kim Jong Un is the guy for you. You hate public schools, so what do you suggest? You hate public healthcare, so what do you offer? Do you think those in need should just lay down and die and/or watch their kids suffer because they are too proud to ask for help? In your world, would that help be available?

It should be 21. 18 year olds don't know shit.

Hell, realistically it should be raised to 25 actually. Not that 18 - 25 year olds really vote anyway.
but they are considered to know enough shit to go and fight some war in some godforsaken country on the other side of the world.....

The only way to actually check the increasing growth of Government on a Federal Level is to have a balanced budget Constitutional Amendment.

Cuts need to be made, like you have seen in President Trump’s Budget. That’s not even a balanced budget.

If you want to see what unbridled and unchecked government, who has continually moved towards Socialism looks like just look at.......

Oh, you thought I was going to say Venezuela????

.....no.....

Just look at France. France is what happens when you continue to promise your citizens more and more free stuff and then suddenly realize that you cannot afford it. Yellow vests is what happens, when migrants and citizens who have been accustomed to generous government handouts, see those handouts scaled back.

France has the additional strain like all other EU Nations of supporting millions of immigrants as well as French citizens who are on public assistance. The stress their government even more when they attempt to add more benefits or increase benefits that they cannot afford.

Nearly every Socialist Nation eventually fails. The only ones that survive have had to scale back Socialism and moderate it.

America is already at that point. We essentialily are already a Socialist Nation. You may call America Socialist Lite for context but we have a great deal of Socialism already.

So when President Trump tells you “We will never be a Socialist Nation”. He means we will never be a Venezuela or Cuba or a failed Soviet Union. He means Socialism has to be held in check, scaled back but never eliminated because we do need a Social Safety Net.

If you want to preserve that Social Safety Net, you have to defend The Border. You have to preserve Social Safety Net Dollars for Citizens.
That is not a racial issue. It’s an issue of survival, but not just for America, but for the little bit of Socialism we do have.

You cannot have Socialism and open borders. You cannot have Socialism and unrestrained spending.

So to the Left, I say, “If you like The Little bit of Socialism we do have, then you better get your head out of the sand and help The Right fight to defend it, help us to keep it towards the black instead of constantly operating in the red.”

Call it SocialismCare if you like. You want that to last, then you better be responsible with the revenue we have to pay for and maintain those systems.

But common sense isn’t common these days. We’d rather call each other names instead, myself included. Am I right?

Of course I am.
