Morning Again in America

Well, 30 years ago our government was sponsoring terrorists... so, yeah...
What terrorist were that? We bombed Hezbollah and Syrian positions in Lebanon. We bombed Tripoli and Ghadafi got the message.

Actually, the effort to drive the Soviet Union out of Afghanistan was a huge success, as it also contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union proper. Our failure in Afghanistan in that wise was the failure to follow up with what would have been a relatively modest, but effective, infrastructural building project in agriculture and education. We failed to make sure that our story was told in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the Soviet Union's defeat.

We should have supported the Northern Alliance and General Massoud in his fight against the Taliban.

1980's was a turning point in American history. 1960's socialist took over the professorships on college campuses and produced the generation of the 1990's and their Marxism that resulted in Barack Obama being elected with huge chunk of twenty something younger voters. In 1984 Reagan carried the youth vote. But, the wussification of America and Democrats promising "free" everything, we now have a generation of pajama boys.

What a stupid fantasy world you must live in. The turning point for America during the Reagan administration was when they embraced the theories of Milton Friedman and facilitated the dismantling of our industrial base and started moving towards our fragile and volatile service based economy with it's easy consumer debt and ever rising costs of higher education. You call it "wussification" but it's really just dissatisfaction with how prosperity eventually became an ever more impossible dream for those unlucky enough to start on the bottom rung of the ladder. Something has to give because more of the same Reagan style false populism will be the death of us, not some fantasy of encroaching Marxism.

So you have never heard of Bill Clinton and NAFTA? How did that help the American worker? Reagan encouraged military service by our youth as a way to go to college. This built pride and patriotism in our country. Why are you crying about living in America? Stop being a wuss and make your future happen. Now it won't be easy, and you will have to work hard, and you will have to meet the bosses expectations without any tears. But you can do it.

Other than being 30 years older, I'm doing far better than I was 30 years ago.

I'm retired, have plenty of money, and live life on my own terms.

What could be better than that?

Seems to me consumer debt went down at the end of Reagan's term and sky rocketed under Clinton- Gore. This was responsible for the Clinton economic bubble of the 1990's.

I suppose I should have specifically said that the Bushes and the Clintons took over and continued the same economic policies that Reagan started. Reagan alone could not have made America into the uncertain and insecure plutocracy it is today, a whole lot of people bought into the free market voodoo and it has just about turned us into the corporate serfdom that was intended in the first place.

Indeed, most of all, that. . . .

Personally I have few complaints but if you do not see the trap of expanding consumer credit instead of raising wages then I do not know what to tell you.

Occupied: avoid debt. Work hard. Keys to success.

But is our nation better off?

What we know about the "Nation" comes to us through the media which must be taken with a grain of salt.

And since I have virtually no control over what goes on in the "nation", I tend not to spend much time dwelling on it's problems.

All is well in my little corner of the world and that's really all I give shit about.

OP- Damn straight, now we've had 30 years of Reaganism destroying the US, its middle class, the ME, and world finance. See sig. Idiots. Remember Lebanon, Latin America, giving Saddam WMD, S+L scandal and recession.
And obama has doubled all of that contrived partisan negativity in only five years!
LOL- Thanks, Raygun, for canceling the Fairness Doctrine, making the hatefilled, bs Pub propaganda machine and ignorant, loudmouth hater dupe zombies like you all possible. So fos. Mindless obstruction, phony crises and scandals, party first pandering to the greedy idiot rich for 30 years, and half the country are racist functional morons.

"No strategy" (for ISIS IN SYRIA YET, waiting for Pentagon), IRS targeting Pubs (everything explained by huge number of of TP orgs, NO EVIDENCE, hater dupes), ridiculous beliefs about Bengazi (Stand down orders from WH,no response)- basically anything you morons believe...
Typical crock of propaganda. Crock-o'-Ganda. You no longer exist.
