Governor Cooooooomo of New York is pushing a new law that would restrict certain property owners in NYC from renting their properties via Air BnB.
Check the logic: By using their properties on Air BnB, it takes them off the market for long-term residential rentals, thus reducing the supply for such space, and driving up the price for conventional apartment, room, and house rentals.
Well.
What about the property owners' GOD-GIVEN RIGHT to maximize the revenue they realize from their own ASSETS? When did we toss that out the window?
This is definitely unconstitutional. See the Ninth Amendment (unenumerated rights), and the Fifth Amendment (taking property (rights) without due process of law). Being told what you CANNOT do with your own property is absolutely a deprivation of property.

The rise in rents is nothing more than market forces at work. If people want to live there, but can't afford to...join the fucking Real World. There are lots of places I would want to live but can't afford to, and so I have to live someplace else.
This is what happens when you have a political class, none of whom have ever even had a real job, so they have no idea what it's like to live in the Real World. You live where you can afford to live, and if you can't afford to live where you WANT to live, you try to get a better job so you can afford it. That's the way it works.
