Mitch McConnell Says Stimulus Package Won't Work

Absolutely nothing of substance in that article at all.

“MY POLICY is as radical…as the constitution,” said FDR during the 1932 election campaign when he was accused of wanting to nationalise the utilities.

His policy was also unconstitutional.

Roosevelt was the greatest American president since Lincoln...

Lincoln, another President who felt the Constitution was beneath him and who should have been tried for war-crimes against the south.

Excepting 1937-1938, unemployment fell each year of Roosevelt’s first two terms [while] the U.S. economy grew at average annual growth rates of 9 percent to 10 percent,” writes University of California historian Eric Rauchway…

OK — if the verifiable evidence proves the New Deal did not prolong the Depression, what about historians — do they “pretty much agree” on the opposite?

Again, no.

As Newsweek’s Daniel Gross reports, “One would be very hard-pressed to find a serious professional historian who believes that the New Deal prolonged the Depression.”

Really? Mitch McConnell is now the voice of reason for the GOP?

In 1996, Senator McConnell demanded that President Clinton allow White House aides to testify under oath. On April 1, 2007, Chris Wallace claimed that McConnell's stance on Karl Rove and Harriet Miers testifying under oath in relation to the Dismissal of U.S. attorneys controversy was contradictory. Wallace asked, "In 1996, you were saying those White House aides should testify in open hearing. These were White House aides of Bill Clinton, in open hearing under oath. Why shouldn't the same rules apply for the Bush White House and people like Karl Rove?" McConnell replied, "And what I’m telling you is the president's going to make that decision."

This is interesting. There appears to be a wave of revisionism spreading when it comes to the New Deal policies. Why is that?

Because the school-system teaches that FDR rode in with his brilliant New Deal and saved Capitalism from itself, which is of course nonsense.

I was just a bit interested because I remember reading that Keynes - and the New Deal was Keynesian - saved capitalism back in the 1930s. Now I'm reading that it's wrong. It just seems to me that perhaps ideology is trumping common sense and reality here. Did Keynes save capitalism or not?

No.

I just gave you the facts.

When FDR's regulations were repealed, capitalism collapsed.

You gave me what you think are the facts. They are not facts, however. Interventions in the market only cause problems.

The "market" without regulations turned into a Ponzi scheme.

Does the name "Madoff" mean anything to you?

Yes, it certainly was a ponzi scheme. But without regulations? What market are you thinking of?

But continue with your fantasy.

What the....? FDR's regulations repealed??? What the...? The only thing that saved FDR was WWII. The New Deal was an utter failure at socialism. Which you have no problem defending. This is fact not fantasy, Chris. After the WWII we were out of the depression. Go back and get your A game for this board, sonny.

The SunJournal? You need to bring more than a left wing site to prove that to me. Just google "FDR New Deal failure", and look where that takes you. I'm not going to do a tic for tat game with you. The facts are the facts. It was an utter failure.

Not to play devil's advocate, but you could also google "FDR New Deal success" and look where it takes you. The facts are the facts. It was not an utter failure.

It prolonged the Great Depression by roughly 10 years, that's not an utter failure?

Taxation was running the economy in the ground...the New Deal was the cause of it. People were getting taxed at every turn, sir. Lets just take the sites out of it, and read what historians had to say about it, not a left wing SunJournal. Not to play devils advocate, but the New Deal failed. Historians wrote that WWII is what stimulated the economy, and put people back to work, not the New deal. The facts are the facts, and history is what it is, and it's undeniable. The New Deal failed. You need to bring your "A" game to this board.
