Oh My bad , I dont know why I thought you said Carter (not enough coffee in me yet I guess).

What deregulation did Clinton do that lead to this?

It was under his regime that the decidon NOT to regulate the derivative market was made, TM.

In fact the woman who was running the Commodities Regulations, the woman who quite accurately predicted that the derei9vatives games that the banks were playing were going to cause a MELTDOWN, GOT FIRED because she wouldn't go along to get along.

So blaming this entire mess of Bush II is sort of missing the point.

This MESS has deep DEREGULATION roots that go back through the last 5 administrations AT LEAST.

Banks didn't meltdown and fail because of derivatives, they failed because of mortgages.
Mortgages that they have always been allowed to write.
Mortgages that would not have been prevented by regulations that may have been removed.

This is very bad news for most Americans. And now Food & Gas Prices are Skyrocketing. Check out the prices at your local Grocery Store. It's pretty unbelievable what's going on with those prices. Those prices affect average American Families. And then of course you have Five Wars to fund. These are very bad times for our Nation. Unfortunately things will likely get worse. Some Politicians still refuse to address our real problems. A $14.5 Trillion Debt is not going to just magically disappear. A day of reckoning is coming.

I'll even go a step further and say that if things were this bad under a Republican President, these same Hopey Changeys here would be screeching for Impeachment right now. They'll of course deny this but they know it's true. But it's a 'D' in there now so it's excuse-making time for them. When you consider how awful our Debt problem is right now,we are very close to another Depression. It's even worse than Carter's Malaise of the 70's. Darker days are definitely ahead for this Nation.

Thats easy to be that way behind a key board huh?
there is no reason for that childish behavior here are any where else

Eh, excuse me? Who inquired about medical conditions?

Who called me a motherfucker?

Who repeatedly looks factual information in the eye and denies it?

Is this still GWB fault?

There are many to blame, but what are we going to do about it now? We need to cut spending (long overdue) and cut taxes (that's all we have left). Is Washington doing this? Nope. So expect a tough year. We'll see what happens in 2012 when the election gets closer.

Is insanity contagious in conservative circles? When you have a major budget shortfall and MASSIVE deficits caused by too much spending (on domestic spending AND two wars that were never paid for) you can't cure it by cutting spending at the very same time that you're lowering taxes when the federal tax rate is already historically low.

If you REALLY want to cut the deficit, you have to cut spending AND raise taxes.

you don't have to raise taxes,, just ask ALL Americans to put some skin in the game. After all ain't it you fuckwits always saying "we're all in this together." LIke hell we are.

Two points.

One: How can anyone honestly suggest that "we're all in this together" if massive spending cuts are made on entitlement programs (which mostly affects the elderly, the poor, and the sick, and taxes remain unchanged (or are even lowered) after a decade when taxes have been at their lowest level in decades?

Two: Saying that the solution to our budget deficit problem is to both cut spending and cut taxes is the equivalent of saying that we should both raise taxes and raise spending.

The problem must be attacked from both sides: Cut spending AND raise revenues.

The top tax rate in 1986 was 28%. I'm pretty sure the top rate is higher than that now, even after the massive Bush cuts.

I didn't say I was against raising revenue did I? Hell no. I said let ALL AMericans put some skin in the game and pay TAXES to the FEDERAL POT. Don't expect 1% to pay the majority of your taxes and handouts.

I show that the top marginal tax rate in 1986 was 50%. It's now 35%.

The massive Debt makes this Malaise much worse than the Jimmy Carter Malaise in the 70's. We're literally living on borrowed time.

Sorry, you're right.
The top tax rate after the Tax Reform Act of 1986 fully went into effect was 28%.
Pretty sure 35% is higher than 28%.

Tax cuts do raise revenues, to an extent. But it is totally offset when you cut taxes and jack spending up 20%. The best way to look at it is to look at two extremes, 100% taxation and 0% taxation. Of course neither works, but at 100% taxation, why work? At 0%, we're all happy and productive as we keep every dollar earned, but this too is unrealistic. So, there has to be happy medium, which for the benefit of all involved should be as low as possible.

Art Laffer has done some great work on this. You should also read David Ricardo. To conclude, no nation has EVER taxed its way into prosperity.

Tell me the justification for taking 50% of a person's income?

Pretty sure 35% is higher than 28%.

It highest marginal tax rate used to be 70% for years. In 1964, it was 77%. In 1963, it was 91%. In 1953, it was 92%.

The greater point is that there is currently a lot of false information being proffered on how current marginal tax rates are WAY too high and must be cut further.

But what really tics me off is all this propaganda about how cutting marginal tax rates further will invariably lead to massive job creation. Really? Why didn't that happen when Bush dropped marginal tax rates when he was president?

One thing is for sure...The Socialists/Progressives aren't gonna get us out this horrific mess. They have no ideas. Keeping things status-quo isn't the answer. The massive $14.5 Trillion Debt isn't just gonna magically disappear. Real ideas and solutions are needed. Just pushing it off on future generations is actually criminal.

Pushing for renewable energy as a way of getting us off our dependence on foreign oil while also putting America in the forefront of the world on green energy (like new battery technology and the production plants that are built as a result of that new technology) is a pretty damn good idea. Do you think former oil men like Bush and Cheney would pursue that path when all republicans seem to understand is tax cuts for oil companies?

Socialists/Progressives created this terrible mess and they aint gonna get us out of it. And Yes,DA BOOOOOOOOSH was a Socialist too.

Battery technology isn't the answer. How and where do people think they're gonna get all that increased electricity usage? So no,battery technology will not help in any way.
