Don’t look now, but there’s something creepy coming toward you, and it wants to take over your public school system. Sure, it’s connected—through all-important grants—to many of the big names in today’s education reform movement (Gates, Walton, Broad), but most people have probably never heard of it.

This “education reform powerhouse” is the Center on Reinventing Public Education, which goes by the acronym CRPE—or “creepy.” How fitting. While there are many individuals and organizations on the front lines of the free-market education reform movement—from Teach for America, to Education Secretary Arne Duncan, to the Recovery School District in New Orleans—CRPE has not been publicly outed. Instead, it has steadily carved out an influential role for itself behind the scenes. In fact, CRPE operates in a manner that is strikingly similar to ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), the secretive, powerful group funded by the Koch brothers and a large roster of corporations. Here’s a look at how the two organizations work:
Meet the Latest Secret Free-Market Group That Wants to Take Over Your Public School - In These Times

And another little group rises to the top.

We need to have our schools reformed.
So it seems to me you want the left to still control the Public School system and want to keep our kids from actually learning things, rather than being taught to be robots.

This is fucking priceless.

For just a moment, please consider the subversive groups that are currently in control of the American public education system. The NEA and the NFT.

These are the groups that for decades have been actively fighting any attempt to (a) evaluate teachers according to academic results, (2) get rid of non-performing teachers, (iii) do anything that will cause them additional work or time on the job, and (D) allow mid-career technical professionals to enter teaching in the fields of science and math (where the credentials of current teachers are pitiful).

Jesus Fucking Christ. And you are worried about an outside group gaining influence?

How fucking delusional can you be? Seriously, are you concerned that someone ELSE can make it worse?

Unbelievable.

You did that. You have had a twenty year failure in that arena. The public school system is for the public. Not for some billionaires with zip experience in education profiting off of it. Another free market failure.

It is the progressives who have been doing that since the 1970's.
Carter signed the law that made way for the new Federal Department, Nixon expanded it and the social left took it over.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation
You are upset that the Koch's and others are now in competition with the big left donors.
The right would not have to do this if it wasn't for the failure of the left.

The thought that union thugs care more about the kids than private citizens is a joke. They regularly break laws and strike right before school session to fuck up people's lives for better pay and bennies. They do pretty well for a summer off type of job as it is. Who else can do that?

Our schools are in serious trouble and the academic level of the students prove it. When Lithuania can kick our ass scholastically something is very wrong. Especially with the MANY thousands of dollars per student we pay now. We are not getting a good bang for the buck. We mostly need performance reform where it's easy for an administrator to fire a worthless teacher and a local board to easily fire a worthless administrator.

There is nothing to be in denial about on my end. Testing scores cannot be directly compared in the states. They can't be compared internationally. He knows for a fact that the testing cannot be tied to teachers. He also knows that we have hit a level of over testing and that the types of education that he is set on profiting off of don't work. In fact, he is aware that this has lead to memorization of facts and destruction of critical thinking. He is also aware that his version of faux privatization in charter schools is a fail and that they are not held to the same standards.

AND he doesn't care because for him it's all about the profit.

So, the no..you...doesn't play well.

Indirectly. They cannot be compared directly. That's what Common Core was supposed to address. You cannot make a correct comparison internationally because the systems are extremely diverse. Means you're a sucker for believing it.

You already had twenty years of failure after implementation. This is not new.

I have no knowledge of what PISA is or what you are referring to.
I get my information stats right from the Education Department itself.
