Zone1 Maybe we need a Booker T. Washington day.

Nonsense
By 1968, MLK had already achieved most of his Civil Rights agenda.

It would have been great f he had lived to see Barack Obama elected
Becoming a martyr is what sealed his legacy in history. He was a great man in many ways but he also had his warts. Becoming a martyr elevated his status from civil rights leader to civil rights giant.

Same applies to JFK

I'm all for a Booker T Washington Day, I see no reason why he should not be honored.
(1) Absolutely! He deserves to be honored.

(2) If more young gentlemen of his ethnicity today would follow Dr. Washington's advice to work hard and behave themselves, we would not have all this violent crime, and most Asians, Caucasians, and Hispanics would be less wary upon encountering them.

(3) Besides a special day, he also deserves a stamp in his honor and a statue in D.C.

This is where Booker T Washington failed miserably

He sincerely believed that if blacks conformed to whites expectation of what blacks should be that over time, they would be accepted as equals in white society. Just bear with us, don’t raise a fuss…..your time will come

He was mislead.
Over the next hundred years, every time that blacks looked like they would have an opportunity to integrate, they were met with violent opposition

(1) Thank you for your very sincere opinion.

(2) Some people respectfully disagree with you.

(3) They agreed with Abraham Lincoln that the two groups had such different cultural values that they both would be better off living separate from each other.

(4) Caucasian Southerners felt that their fellow Southerners who had just been freed needed time to adjust to living as freed people before an integrated society could be contemplated.

(5) In any case, this is now 2024. There is now the integration that so many people dreamed of.

Have a nice day!

Excellent ideas! He was a truly exceptional man.

He will never have his own holiday because he wasn't murdered and therefore did not become a martyr.

Had MLK Jr. not been assassinated, hardly anyone under 30 years old would know his name today.
I think it has more to do with Booker T Washington blowing up the victim hood/reparations narrative.

ITs a short hop and skip from removing Confederate monuments to erasing monuments of the Founders. I think this is where they are headed. total erasure of of history.
The founders who owned slaves and murdered the indigenous people?

The record shows that what you were told was more than opinion. Your reply was bs opinion and excuses defending racism. Whites like you are still resisting integration.

So why do we need a Booker T Washington Day instead of a Frederick Douglass Day?

This great man who was born into slavery, rose above it and fought to end slaery He made it so Washington could be free and he made is so Washington could lead a successful life.. So why does Marathon Mike want Washington honored?

“There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. ... Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs ... There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well.”
– Booker T. Washington

“If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” -Frederick Douglass

The white racist loves the non white person that doesn't challenge them. The non white that just keeps taking it without ever fighting back. This is why the racists have adopted Asians as the model minority because they had trraditionally practiced the philosophy of Gamman, which basically means to shut up and take it gracefully. Frederck Douglass didn't do that.. So Mike skipped him to start several threads about Booker T. Washington.
