I think I've bought about 3 lottery tickets in my life. Always figured it was a waste of money. Having said that a half billion is kind of enticing.

I think ill buy about 5 dollars worth on my way home this afternoon. If I win I will give every regular poster here that I recognize a grand since you all have kept me entertained for the past year.

Anyhow if you bought a ticket....GOOD LUCK!

I'm not a very lucky person, so I don't buy them.........sometimes I might get an instant scratch off one, but rarely.

I buy my lottery tickets every two weeks. I buy 14 draws on the little lotto, 6 draws on the regular lotto, 4 draws on the big game, and 4 draws on Power Ball. So, I have my 1 ticket for tonights big 640 million lottery draw. I spend $38.00 on the lottery every 2 weeks. That's enough. It's good entertainment for me to check the numbers every morning to see if I struck it rich. Buying any more lottery tickets than that is not only a waste of time but in my way of thinking foolish. Once in a great while I will buy a scratch off ticket but not very often. They are fun to scratch but generally a loosing deal for me. I've won as much as $400.00 on a scratch off and everything in between but usually I hardly ever win. I play the lottery for entertainment and although I won $10, 150.00 in the Maryland lottery when I lived there, I go into it pretty much resolved that I'm not going to win. If I did win that 640 million dollar lottery, I would make a lot of people very happy.

My sainted Pop used to say that the lottery was a tax imposed on those who failed math classes.

Remember how the federal government spent all that money in the 20th century fighting against the "numbers racket"? How many federal FBI officers died in the fight against a lottery? The mafia was evil for running a numbers game but it's perfectly okay for the government to run one? Makes no sense.

Then there's the fact that the majority of lottery revenue goes towards schools...government run schools. The LAST thing I want to do is support more government control over our education market.

Lastly, I have an advanced degree in mathematics. I understand the odds and how lopsided the payouts are. If any Las Vegas casino paid out like the lottery, they'd lose their license and be prosecuted for ripping off the customers...but it's perfectly fine for the government to do so?

For these reasons, I will never buy a lottery ticket.

Yeah. Nobody wants a quality education! Get that money away from where teaching happens! Slates and chalk and a dirt floor was good enough for our pioneer forefathers, it should be okay for us. And if we get government out of the water quality business, maybe we could thin the heard with some good old fashioned cholera too.

I may buy some scratch-off once in awhile, and have won pretty good on them. But whenever i've bought mega-millions or any of those others i NEVER get enough numbers to win more than $5. But, between my husband and i, and our kids we're going to pool it and get about $30 worth of tickets for this one. Hey, ya never know!!! :)
