Looks like lunchbox nazi inspectors are mandated by the Feds

They don't get it. Whether the kid was given nuggets or salmon or two lunches instead of one is not the issue. Whether it was only one school or just a few poor kids is not the issue. Someone is inspecting the lunch boxes. There are a thousand reasons why this is unacceptable.

YOU don't get it. NO ONE inspected children's lunches, took them away or forced them to eat school lunches.

The researcher from FPG Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina ordered full school lunches for every single child in this program and was evaluating the school’s compliance with standards, not individual parents’ compliance.

The child was given another lunch instead of the lunch her mother packed her.

They even sent home a note to her mother. Mother has the note.
And armed with that note? Taking thier collective asses to court.

Wow... tinydancer you are a dishonest liar who apparently can't even read.

Nothing in the law allows "inspectors" to inspect lunches that children have been given by their parents, ruling them worthy or unworthy and preventing children from eating them. The inspectors are inspecting the school lunches provided by the school, so that they meet those standards.

It has always been that schools have been instructed to be unable to dictate what the children eat... and the parents have the final say in what the children eat if those said parents provide a lunch for that child to eat. If it's junk food, the kids are allowed to eat that junk food.

However, all nutrition being provided by the school is inspected and monitored to be sure it meets the guidelines of the program. In some cases in the past, that has been bad because they've still been providing shitty foods to our children(chicken nuggets, etc).

But THAT is the only thing the inspectors are inspecting.

You liar.

:eusa_whistle:

From another update:

The agent examined the lunches for the six students in the class and believed one did not meet nutritional requirements spelled out by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Barnes said.

According to the USDA, schools are required to provide lunches that include one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

DHHS is investigating.

So Gubmint is telling parents what thier children what they must serve? Really?

It's NONE of thier freaking business.

I eat locally grown produce, that which I don't grow myself. I eat either game meat, or meat from my own animals. I make my own cheese, yogurt, and butter from raw milk from my own dairy animals. I avoid, to the extent possible, anything with GMOs, particularly corn and soy, as well as byproducts of those things. I glean berries and wild-crafted herbs and plants to add to my diet. For about 75% of my diet, I know what goes into it.
What is being done to our food is criminal. Our government is complicit, having been bought out by big agri-business.

:clap2:

It's criminal. And while they try to keep useful idiots eyes on something as stupid as Keystone III a non issue truly by comparison, the chemical giants are completely taking over and monopolizing the food industry.

GM scares the crap out of me.

As well they should. I've been doing a lot of reading about what is being done to our food supply. And our government is waging an ongoing war on the small, local agricultural producers on behalf of big agri-business.

Well, while we still don't exactly who the agent was in the "chicken nugget" fiasco in NC, this is what I have found out.

In 2010 the Feds passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

This is right on the USDA website. I never knew that First Ladies could push legislation.

Most recently, Rowe served as Deputy Administrator for Special Nutrition Programs at FNS, leading the effort to pass the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, the legislative centerpiece of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative to end childhood obesity in a generation.

Then there is this. Right on the WH site. And you can grab a pdf link off this one to see what they have outlined as a sample nutritious school lunch.

President Obama Signs Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 Into Law

First Lady Michelle Obama, Administration Officials and Let’s Move! Advocates Reaffirm Commitment to Raise a Healthier Generation of Kids

“Today is a great day for kids throughout our country as they will soon have healthier, and more nutritious food in their schools. As we continue to focus on the twin issues of childhood obesity and hunger, we will increase access to good, quality meals in school cafeterias so the nutritional needs of our youngsters are better met.

The President and First Lady have advocated strongly for passing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, and, this bill, along with the resources and the powers provided under it, are going to allow USDA to be much more effective and aggressive in responding to obesity and hunger challenges for America’s kids.”

- U.S. Secretary Of Agriculture Tom Vilsack

Are they aware that kids are given a choice of what they want to eat?

And yes, a plate full of just fries is on the menu.

Wonder what the meals will cost when all is said and done?

Nobody is having their home-made lunch taken away from them. Their lunches are being supplemented from the cafeteria if it isn't nutritious enough. A child coming to school with only a salami sandwich and a juice needs their lunch supplemented.
