"Likely to weaponize intelligence": Experts alarmed as Trump poised to get security briefings again

Well, you can bet, he won't get hard copies of classified material, and the briefings will be controlled by the National Security Agency, not his lawyers.

When did they put you in charge of policy?

They also said that what they tell Trump won't include sources and methods. They'll tell him what's going on, but not "how" we found the information out.

As I recall Putin attacked Ukraine twice. Once during the Obama administration and once during Biden's but not during Trump's.

Remember, you had Paul Manafort during Trump term. Who knows what information was going to Putin through Manafort.

Besides. Putin said he invaded Ukraine to keep it from joining NATO. And we know that Trump opposed Ukraine joining NATO because of his theories.

Trump asked Ukraine’s president to help prove a bonkers, Russia-friendly conspiracy theory that U.S. intel relied on manufactured evidence to blame the 2016 DNC hack on Moscow.
Donald Trump asked for more than a criminal investigation of his political opponent’s son in his call with Ukraine’s president. Trump also sought help in reviving a long-ago debunked conspiracy theory that challenges the basic underpinnings of the U.S. intelligence community’s findings on Russia’s 2016 election interference, in a bizarre spectacle that sees an American president trying to conscript a foreign leader into undermining his own intelligence agencies.

“I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike,” Trump said, according to a compilation of notes on the call released by the White House. “I guess you have one of your wealthy people. The server, they say Ukraine has it.”

Let’s face facts. Trump hardly ever read national intelligence reports. He trusted Putin and his own monumental ego more than the U.S. intelligence reports he didn’t usually bother to read! So to keep his attention the U.S. State Department, Commerce Department and intelligence agencies all grossly shortened and simplified the reports for Trump.

Obama made mistakes but at least he read everything, challenged what he thought suspicious, did his homework, and was already well informed about international politics before he was elected President the first time. Trump got his information from right wing TV, which recycled Putin propaganda … and still does.

They also said that what they tell Trump won't include sources and methods. They'll tell him what's going on, but not "how" we found the information out.
And even that information is justified cause for alarm; given Trump’s criminal handling of classified documents, his reckless, irresponsible disclosure of national security information, and his treasonous, lawless conduct, Trump shouldn’t be afforded any such briefings.

Bet Surada's ass is 10x the size of Trump's.
that would make it infinite.

that may save a few of our assets, but the problem of a known leaker receiving classified information remains.

this "trump is too tough for putin" myth would be pathetic if it were no9t so tragic.

why would putin waste money and troops on a military adventure when the us president is willing to serve nato up on a platter?

Bush trusted national intelligence and Iraq happened.

the briefings are not a constitution or legal requirement, merely a courtesy. what courtesy has has the guy who refused to transition earned?

Exactly. Trump only listened to Putin. Damn, that's so weird.

Bush trusted national intelligence and Iraq happened.

Bush listened to the most insane war-mongers in the Republican Party, and like Trump was motivated by personal reasons. His father was far better informed and far more rational than he. Bush Senior built a genuine international coalition to stop Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait.

This FIRST war against Iraq after it invaded Kuwait was not irresponsible.

Of course Obama opposed the 2nd war and disastrous occupation, and voted against the original act justifying it, which at least showed he was looking ahead and questioning the fake intelligence being provided to Congress about WMD, etc.

Intelligence and real foresight, not “intelligence agencies” under any group of imperialists/warmongers running them, is what is needed — and Trump has no intellifgence whatever. He would turn the world over to freedom’s and the US.’s greatest enemies, and bring authoritarian rule to our country … if we let him.

Hasn't Trump proven how sloppy and untrustworthy he is about national security matters.
It simply doesn't matter. The president gets all the information because he has to make the decisions. Basically, hiding information from him is insurrection and is someone taking that power of the presidency into their own hands, a bloodless coup if you will.

Do you believe this crap about the Bushes?

Odd that Biden has the world in flames, but you still believe the Bad Orange Man is the problem

Trump could never get a security clearance. Do you understand? He's Putin's lapdog. He mocks US intelligence. He wants to suspend the constitution.... and he's dumb as hell. Look what he did to South Carolina soybean farmers as soon as he took office.. look what he did to Cuba and the Iran agreement.

He's a menace.

The bottom line remains, if he gets elected, he's entitled to ALL such briefings, and to do otherwise it to commit insurrection and a coup, because someone other than the president is making the decisions. They've far more effectively overthrown the government than any riot.
