LAPD: Cops falsely portrayed people as gang members, falsified records
I have written this many times. But if we are going to give the police extraordinary authority and esteem. In other words, if two people are telling their side of the story, and one is a cop, the Courts will believe the cop. If we are going to give them that sort of power, we must hold them to a higher standard.
The LAPD was doing their own version fo Stop and Frisk. Instead of hunting baddies, they were harassing innocents, claiming it was the best way to lower crime. It did not work. One arrest out of a hundred random stops on average. So 99 innocent people were harassed to find one baddie. The exact opposite of what Blackwell said we should strive for.
So Cop Supporters. These cops lied on Sworn reports, in effect committing Perjury. Should they be prosecuted and held to account? Or should we just understand that they have a tough job, and a few innocent people having their lives ruined is a small price to pay for the hard jobs the cops have?
How much harder is that job going to be because of the lies that the police told? How much harder is that job going to be when the citizens are resentful at being targeted by the police while committing no crime? How much harder will it be based upon the natural and normal reactions to the average person from the misdeeds of the police themselves?
