Shit, I agree with Krugman on something! How fucked up is that?

Paul Krugman: U.S. is 'kind of' an 'authoritarian surveillance state' - National Policy & Issues | Examiner.com

There was a really good article written five years ago by Jack Balkin at the Yale law school. He said that technology means that we're going to be living in a surveillance state," he said. "That’s just going to happen."

"But," he said, "there are different kinds of surveillance states. You can have a democratic surveillance state which collects as little data as possible and tells you as much as possible about what it’s doing. Or you could have an authoritarian surveillance state which collects as much as possible and tells the public as little as possible."

"And we are kind of on the authoritarian side," he added.

"This follows Friday’s editorial wherein the Times said Obama had 'lost all credibility' concerning the national security issue," Newsbusters' Noel Sheppard said.

The surprise is it only took Krugman twelve years to figure it out.

No decent America supported the Patriot Act. Not. One.

The CIA, NSA, DoJ, and Ministry of Fear (aka DHS) no longer consider citizens in policy decisions. We are living the runaway government Don Regan envisioned when Otis Chandler handed Ronald Reagan over to him as a likeable, suggestible and highly trainable front for whatever Regan could hide behind flag and cross.

Having sold out its natural born citizens, the government now needs to watch citizens to ensure all citizens become as docile as Republicans have been since the 1980s.

It's not a rocket.

You know our whole society h as been 'remodeled' after WW2 to prevent a popular uprising of the sort that led to fascism.

The irony now is that we were never in danger of becoming a true fascist nation until Obama took office.

Now who knows what the hell is going to happen when this whole consumerism-democracy-two-party racket collapses into the shit pile of history?

A small quibble, Obama might be The One, but the first brick of the path to fascism was laid with the tax act of 1982, essentially leading to control of the government by corporations, and the last structural brick was laid on the path to fascism with the Patriot Act. Everything since then has been smoothing the road for traffic.

Like the path to hell, every brick was laid with good intentions.

Exactly where the slope becomes unresistable and all become doomed to a fate is hard to tell. But resigning ourselves to it pre-emptively has to be a fascilitating factor.

Same thing is going on in Europe. Personally I don't think the American people will ever allow the constuct a totalitarian state.

I hope you are right, but with the mass media giving cover to Obama like they are, the people might not ever become aware of the coup that now appears to be being executed against the Republic.

Left or right politics aside, my faith in the U.S. is that of not enough Americans ever can be round up to carry out the orders for a totalitarian government. For good or bad it's clear that even deep into organisations like Pentagon and NSA there are people willing to risk everything to tell whats going on - with no real gain coming their way.

Seriously?

Who the fuck passed the AUMF and the Patriot Act?

And you guys want to impeach the second Democratic President, IN A ROW, and then talking about Fascism?

Oh gosh.

Any privacy invading, information gathering tool that the government has is going to get used.

Any privacy invading, information gathering tool that corporations have is going to get used.

These powerful technologies are like Tolkein's RINGS of POWER...they corrupt everyone who has them.

Reasonably, you would be right.

But these are Obama-phone Democrat morons we are speaking of, and with them apparent deterrence simply does not always work; they are too stupid to perceive the deterring response.

I totally fucking agree.

FISA should have very close supervision and it obviously has none at all.

Oh gosh.

Bush laid the legal groundwork for a potential dictator, true, but I doubt he truly thought anyone would abuse the power this badly.

And who said I want Obama impeached? I think that would be a very bad thing and weaken the office of the President unless Obama refuses to cooperate with Congress, which he is NOT doing right now. He is orchestrating a coverup as we speak.

Some people on this thread are so seriously naive........making this a partisan thing. The hopelessly duped.......dumbasses who think this is about an epic ideological struggle.:D:eusa_dance:

Our government is methodically taking away our rights by the day......doesnt matter who is in charge.

Bush abused power.....period. The current guy has simply ramped it up.

Its all about herding the sheep s0ns!!!

Happy Now!!!!!!!!:coffee:

I would say it's the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
