If we really wanted to improve our education, one should only go to some of the asian countries ands see how many hours make up a school day, what subjects are taught each grade, how much homework is given how the teachers are taught, is there a standard test the teachers must pass to teach?

There, teacher are considered "Next to God" and the the culture respects high educational standards. The students are taught during the day and practice in the form of homework each night. I don't know this as fact, but I don't think the baseball, football, dancing lessones, music lessons judo lessons take up the time after school like it does here.
