We at Twitchy hadn’t paid much attention to the White House’s “We the People” site until spokesman Jay Carney drew attention to the petition to release the president’s secret beer recipe. Since then, the site has taken off, with petitions ranging from demands to secede from the Union to calls for nationalization of the Twinkie industry and a return of Toledo, Ohio, to Michigan.

Recently, Americans have petitioned for the deportation of Piers “Musket” Morgan, after the British CNN host essentially hijacked the national conversation on gun violence with a relentless stream of “look at me!” tweets.

Now we’ve all heard that conservatives are the humorless ones, and that we don’t understand the finer points of the language, such as metaphor. But while gun rights advocates have reacted to the petition with the snarky #PiersMorganDeportationGifts hashtag, author Joyce Carol Oates has likened the petition to — wait for it — a lynching.

Piers Morgan: ‘It's Time For an Amendment to the Bible’
December 27, 2012 – After his gun-control views landed him on a petition to be deported from the United States, CNN host Piers Morgan is now contending “it’s time for an amendment to the Bible” because, like the Constitution, it is “inherently flawed.”
In an interview that was broadcast on Christmas Eve, Morgan told evangelical Pastor Rick Warren that due to changing cultural views on gay marriage the Bible, too, must be changed. The British television host explained that a passage that states adultery is punishable by death proves the Bible is “flawed.” “The Bible and the Constitution were well-intentioned, but they are basically inherently flawed,” Morgan said. “Hence the need to amend it.” “My point to you about gay rights, for example, it's time for an amendment to the Bible,” he said.

Warren said, "No," there is “not a chance” of that happening. “What I believe is flawed is human opinion because it constantly changes,” said Warren. “In fact, we do it every eight years in America. We have a -- we have a change in opinion; what was -- what was hot is now not.” “And I willingly admit that I base my worldview on the Bible, which I believe is true, and truth,” Warren said. “My definition of truth is if it's new, it's not true. If it was true 1,000 years ago, it'll be true 1,000 years from today.” “Opinion changes, but truth doesn't,” he said. "We're going to agree to disagree on that," said Morgan.

CNN’s Morgan also went after Rev. Warren for his views against homosexual marriage, asking, “Why do you have such a problem with a man who, quite naturally, falls in love with another man?” Warren argued that it is not a “love issue.” “The Bible says you can love anybody,” said Warren. “There is nothing in the Bible that says a man can't love a man. In fact, there are many examples of men loving men in Scripture. The Bible says you just can't have sex with everybody.” “I'm commanded to love everybody,” Warren added. “I, as a believer in Jesus Christ, I am not allowed to hate anybody. I'm not allowed to disrespect anybody. I am commanded--in fact, Jesus said if you don't love everybody, you don't really love me. So it's not a love issue.”

Incidentally, Morgan’s appeal to amend the Bible comes just weeks after a publisher released a gay-friendly “Queen James” version, which changes verses that deal with homosexuality to avoid “homophobic interpretations.” Morgan recently was criticized for calling for even stricter gun-control in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn, and for calling Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, "an unbelievably stupid man” for arguing that guns enable people to protect themselves. Morgan’s comments landed him on a White House petition to have him deported for “attacking the Second Amendment,” which surpassed 80,000 signatures on Thursday.

I'm still trying to figure out why Morgan's first name is "Piers", instead of Pierce or Pearce.

The only thing I can come up with is that "Piers" Morgan was conceived under a pier somewhere on the English coast, and his mother couldn't remember which one, so she pluralized his name to "Piers".

His last name may refer to the amount of money his mother was paid for the actual sex act (a Morgan silver dollar).

And how is that speculation condusive to the discussion?

He's trying to be funny. Actually the first one was pretty good. It went on too long, but don't discourage humour.

There is humor and then there is calling someones mom a prostitute. Not the same things at all.

Doesn't the Morgan name refer to the slave trader turned pirate?

They're not mutually exclusive. Something can be in bad taste and still be funny. Humor is a way of presenting an idea. What that idea is is another matter.

When the Liberal/Socialist/Communists petition the Gov't it's "Democracy in Action".

But when Conservatives do it it's "Crucifying Negroes".

Requsting forgivness in advance, Waltky:eusa_angel:

More: Maybe Piers Morgan actually wants to be deported from the United States. His comments calling for stricter gun laws have already resulted in a petition calling for him to be sent back to his native Britain. Now he's arguing both the Bible and the U.S. Constitution are "inherently flawed," which hasn't earned him any extra supporters. The comments came during a discussion with Rick Warren in which Morgan, arguing for gay rights, said the Bible should be amended to reflect modern views. Warren disagreed, saying, "If it was true a thousand years ago, it'll be true a thousand years from today. Opinion changes but truth doesn’t."
