The Soviets were invaded in 1918 by 14 countries, with over 200K troops, including the US, UK and France. Whenever a country is at war, democracy suffers. Power is centralized. There was still a certain degree of democracy in the Soviet system, but much less, than it was under Lenin. Here in America we would have the original communism, that is 100% democratic.
