In what is being reported as a surprise move, the 40,000 members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) announced that they have formally ended their association with the AFL-CIO, one of the nation's largest private sector unions.

The Longshoremen citied Obamacare and immigration reform as two important causes of their disaffiliation.

In an August 29 letter to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, ILWU President Robert McEllrath cited quite a list of grievances as reasons for the disillusion of their affiliation, but prominent among them was the AFL-CIO's support of Obamacare.

Why do you think the unions are hitting fast food workers so hard?

Oh, agreed... they need members. But think about it, they continually go after dumber and dumber workers. Pretty soon it's just going to be a collection of useful idiots.. oh, wait, never mind.

It's unfortunate but one can not help but to smile when the statist sharks start eating each other, I feel bad for the longshoreman that have been used as pawns by the unholy marriage of union bosses and their lackey's in the federal government, however it's an unfortunate consequence of the poor decision making that leads one to get involved with criminal organizations in the first place.

"Thus we can see that, at least at the level of economics, democracy is a sort of slow-motion suicide, in which you are told that it is the highest civic virtue to approve of those who want to rob you." -- Stefan Molyneux

Unions died in Wisconsin, when unions discovered that Obamacare was a bitter pill to swallow, his hold on them dissolved. They were the shots heard round the world.

Private sector unions have been dying in the United States for decades, there's a number of reasons for that, not the least of which is that workers have woken up to the fact that corrupt union bosses have been robbing members of union dues and using them to buy personal feeding time at the public trough while not offering any commensurate value to the membership.

Obamacare is just the latest misdeed that union bosses and their lackeys in government have inflicted on union members, it won't be the last.

The SEIU and many others have become overbearing thugs who try to rule over everyone.
A large majority of Unions are corrupt.

They tried to Unionize the Dental Assistants in Arizona in the middle of the 70's.
They tried to force us to become part of their Union.
We all had to pool our money together to fight them in court.
We won in court to have the right to get a vote on whether we wanted to be unionized or not.
The vote was 98% against wanting to be Unionized.
The Union was offering us benefits that we already had to begin with and we did not want to pay those Dues where the worker has no say in where their money goes politically to candidates.
The Majority of Dental Assistants at that time, voted Republican but the SEIU union dues backs Democrats.
