My mom is Catholic, so I was kind of raised going to Catholic Church. And during all that time, no one ever told me about my need for salvation, or about God, or about reading the Bible. First, if I were Catholic with all this sex abuse and cover up going on, I probably wouldn't remain a Catholic to be honest. But if I were convinced to my soul that Catholicism were the way to go (for whatever reason), I would not give one thin dime to the organization until it had convinced me it had cleaned up its act.

Not one thin dime, Catholics. Being an advocate for children of many years' duration, I urge you to STOP ALL GIVING until they have cleaned up this massive stench of corruption.

I'm not giving up my faith because a small group of men handled this scandal abominably. The Church is run by people. People sometimes make mistakes. It will be cleaned up. The Church that Jesus Christ founded offers me too many ways to praise God, gain a deeper understanding of Him, and in turn try to do His will. I won't let anyone take that away from me.

Now I find that to be an honest, faith-filled response that I can respect. I can't agree with it necessarily, because I don't think Catholics own the only way to Jesus, but I had to rate it something good, so I rated it informative.

Make your leaders accountable, I hope you will! Good Catholics deserve so much better. And I know many good Catholics!

I think there's a difference between the faith and the people in it. One of the many reasons I am not Catholic is because I think they don't do a good job of distinguishing between the two. I agree with you and Compost both. If I genuinely believed that that was the correct way for me to worship God, then no one and nothing would be allowed to stop me. But I also would be demanding that God's house be put in order NOW. My own church would have been defrocking people in job lots and handing them over to the cops. We've defrocked big-name preachers heading mega-churches for a whole lot less.
