I thought I had seen it all, and then came this

The liberal biased media now blames 4.00 a gallon gas on credit cards. Could you imagine this article being wrote when W was the president and gas was 1.80 a gallon?
High Gas Prices: Should You Blame Your Bank? - ABC News

Govt adds an avg of 46 cents a gallon
Exxon makes about 1/2 of that in profit per gallon, or 7%
Oil exploration in this country along with new and modern refinaries are not on Obamas radar, lets not forget a much needed pipe-line that would connect Texas and there refinaries with Canada and there Oil Sands
Nope, Obama has nothing to do with it, it is the evil banks causing this also

Damn that liberal media reporting on a damn report and then giving us a different perspective.....:cuckoo:

"The new report by the National Association of Convenience Stores says it’s those so-called swipe fees at gas stations."

"The credit card industry, as might be expected, begs to differ. In a statement, Ken Clayton....."

How dare they not blame President Obama!

There is already a pipeline from canada to the US and a new section will be built from the depot in Ok. to the refineries of the gulf coast. Oil production hit a 13 year high in Jan 12(even on federal land it has increase 15%). While the number of refineries had dropped, the capacity has remained stable(and with the reduction in US consumption we are now exporting refined products).

Who was President Bush blaming in 2008 for the 4.00+ gasoline? Of course......

President Bush blames Democrats for high gas prices - BostonHerald.com

I could blame democrats all day for high gas prices...

You have made it policy to be anti-drilling and anti-refining....

We could drill our own oil and be self sustained for 100 years.

Of course if we did that it wouldn't matter because the government would come in and tax the fuck out of oil to the tune of 4.00 a gallon.

Of course progressives would rather have us buy oil from terrorists....

yeah yeah yeah we get it; billions in record profits are only reason more that they should get tax breaks. Oil today, oil tomorrow, oil forever! Uhh, we're running out.

to state that gas had went to 1.80 a gallon is as much spin (how ever true) as stating that credit card fees have an effect on Obamas policies and the state of the market when it comes to gas futures

Sure, both were spin. I don't endorse that article in any way.

When Bush was president and gas prices soared I remember the liberal media and the liberals all in an uproar of how it was Bushes fault. Now that the same thing is happening under Obama they are all screaming that the president does not control such things. If it wasn't tragic it would be hysterical.

One of the easiest ways to control a nation is to control the cost of it's energy - gas included.

I have read Chicago Tribune articles that claim high gas prices are due to "a growing economy." Then a few days later they tried to paint growing gas prices on hybrid vehicles.

Progressives are just grasping at straws now...

They'll do anything and say anything to justify high oil prices...
And their followers will buy into it hook line and sinker. As we have seen on these boards.

Banks hold 70% of all oil futures.

I find it HILARIOUS that conservatives champion CAPITALISM, when CAPITAL is what is buying oil futures, inflating the price, then selling at a profit. THAT is the VERY DEFINITION of capitalism.
You pay about $700 out of pocket EVERY YEAR due to this speculation. Good going.

The issue of unbridled and unregulated oil derivatives speculation by a handful of big banks is not a new issue. A June 2006 US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report on “The Role of Market Speculation in rising oil and gas prices,” noted, “…there is substantial evidence supporting the conclusion that the large amount of speculation in the current market has significantly increased prices.”
Behind The Oil Price Rise

Remember ENRON?
This is the remnants of how you legalized Enron's shennanigans.
But heaven forfend we clean it up. NO! House Republicans have fought EVERY effort to re-regulate the financial sector.

I have yet to see one socialist economy or an economy run by the state that has made a country so wealthy as capitalism has. Capitalism is not the problem, crony capitalism like Obama and Bush played IS the problem.

BTW
4.00 a gallon gas has nothing to do with the millions of people out of work who had jobs when he took office
Its not about the price of gas to me (pipelines, etc...) its about the jobs

….

BHO has not even got this country back to where we where in 2008
not even close

Do you realize, JRK, that when Barack Obama took office the country was losing jobs at a rate of 700,000/month! That was the environment and the landscape the President was handed, and that was 2008. Are we losing 700,000 jobs a month anymore? I don’t think so, so we’ve at least seen some improvement.

BHO being president and the loss of millions of jobs scince then has what to do with credit card fees?
Look we can agree to dis agree
I am so sick of reading that speculation has everything to do with 4.00 a gas and policies have nothing to do with it, yet here we go

I could not believe that ABC would resort to fees on our credit cards while ignoring the 46 cents a gallon in taxes being part of the problem, on the radio, in the middle of the day
Price of every gallon of gas includes federal and state taxes of 46.4 cents | Hometown Source
The same ABC that claims that only 6% of the American people are un decided for president and that BHO has a 51% to vote for, with an approval rating of the low 40s

The thread is a joke, as the report from ABC is As was USA "to kill a mokinbird" great movie, 50 years old and has nothing to do with the black panther party having a bounty on zimmermans head (get my point?) and everything to do with an event that never occured
and that is decades behing the times

To reply in it that it has anything to do with speculation makes this more of a joke, ignored completely the irony of how far off of center the big 3 (ABC, CBS, NBC) have gotten

Could you imagine during GWB term, early 08, ABC running this "story" about credit card fees?

And you accuse me as the one with spin?

Oh my, I did not realize that President Obama was also a petroleum geologist. Nor that he had enough money to build a few refineries. Because last I heard those are built and owned by individuals or corperations.

If our refineries are so inadaquete, why are gasoline and diesel now our largest exports? If we build more refineries, and drill more oil, that will just be more that we sell overseas. Fuel is a product that is in high demand. A demand that is exceeding new sources of supply. Find out who Adam Smith is, that have a try at reading his book. An oldie but goodie.

Nick, 98% of the world's oil reserves are in the hands of other countries. I don't think any realistic amount of domestic drilling is going to significantly affect the world's market price for oil.

Also, lets say everyone agreed to start drilling and all restrictions were removed, ect, do you realize we're looking at a good 5-7 years before we start seeing any impact on the market? Do you realize that it's going to be very expensive to setup the infrastructure to a pipeline, and that we have the potential to spill, leak, and that too will be very expensive. All of those costs will need get factored into any savings you may speculate to save at some distant point in the future.

That's why progressivism is a mental disorder.

They'll believe just about anything just as long as it comes out of the correct pie-hole.

I bet one could do a study and conclude that democrats will believe anything a democrat says but if a republican said the exact same thing they would write it off as a lie.

It would be an interesting study that is for sure.

its about credit card fees, not speculation you, never mind

I think the point that Ravage was trying to get across was that speculation plays a much stronger role in determining the price of gas than any single President ever could. This is a direct response to your OP, where you suggest that Obama's unwillingness to support a pipeline or oil exploration is somehow the reason for the high gas prices today:

You also mocked the idea of "evil banks" controlling gas prices, which was another thing Ravage refuted:

it is the evil banks causing this also

Where I'm getting at is that you try to make it seem like Ravage is off topic, when really he's not; he's directly responding to your post.

Also, I believe that speculation has a LOT to do with determining the price of oil, yet you discount Ravage as a “typical lib”, “mis informed”, and repeating a “lie”. Do you not think that speculation plays a role? How do you justify your comment, exactly?

Gee, YOUR SOURCE shows that after you guys tanked the economy, and lost 6 million jobs after you bailed out of office...Obama got jobs coming back fairly quickly didn't he?
Or perhaps you can point to the SPECIFIC cause that Obama instigated that caused the massive jobs loss in his first year?
Are jobs a leading or lagging indicator? Lagging of course. And Obama is doing a passable job with jobs considering how inpotent the do nothing congress has been the last year.

What fucking sort of delusional fantasy world are you fucking living in?

So each job cost us roughly $200,000 in tax breaks.
Think all those jobs paid that much?

I agree. I think that a lot of hardcore Democrats don't realize that Capitalists often welcome a big gov't environment, stock full of regulations and rules, because they (the GEs, the Monsantos) are the ones who have the power to lobby and design it to their specifications. It's all a big game of making sure those who are in power, stay in power.

This stifles competition, which is bad.

Socialism stifles competition too, which is why that often plays out badly as well.

Sad.

To kill a mokinbird, great movie. USA has BHO intro it sunday night as wll as commercials stating "we wont stand for racial bias" something like that
great
fine

Obama does not need free commercials from any net work

Speculation is the stock market
Apple goes from 634.10 to 636.87 just today
gas is no different
calm the oil market, lower the VIX

Speculation gets the attention, not one mention of the 46 cent avg tax paid, by us

Record profit, same
Gasoline Taxes Vs. Exxon Profit, Per Gallon

thats it in a nut shell

JRK - This is just one silly article from ABC (who gets their news from ABC anyways, like 10-14 people nationwide?), so I don't think it really demonstrates anything. We can find silly articles everywhere, from both right and left wing outputs. This isn't a problem on just one end of the political spectrum.

The book was about racial discrimination, showing how racial bias can lead to injustice. I think it was written as a call for racial equality.

Not sure where you're getting at with this tax thing you keep repeating. Hasn't the federal tax on gas remained relatively flat for the past 20 years? Don't the bulk of the taxes we pay at the pump come at the state level?

State
local
Taxes are Taxes
you tell people much about yourself with a question like that, no offense intended
age as well as your poitical beliefs (or lack of)
My point is simple

Our president has screamed from the mountain top about record profits
Exxon makes about the same off of a gallon of gas as does the federal govt (18 cents is real close)

The govt does 0 to help exxon to make that profit
Exxon has no issue building there own roads, the tax payer funded those "items" any-way
My advice? buy Exxons stock and think about why the President is not talking about his legacy and his policies as they have helped this country thru this most difficult time
