"I like Trump because he's so honest"

I think Trump is pretty honest. I really do. Probably the most honest public figure we have seen in a long time.

Does he lie sometimes? Does a bear shit in the woods?

He is not perfectly honest. He is the most honest.
I guess that's a fair point, the best we can do with politicians is grade on a curve.

There's just so much huckster selling in his delivery, it can be a little tough to discern the hyperbole from the pure bullshit.

But no doubt, these are people who consciously and aggressively lie for advantage.
.
I have not really heard him use hope and change nor build a Greek temple to speak from.
He's easily the most entertaining candidate, and he and Perot really stick out.

It's the only press conference or rally I'll (a) actually watch and (b) laugh like hell through.

I was watching when he said that stuff about Weiner and damn near fell out of my La-Z-Boy™.
.

Who would have thought that the most egotistical of the candidates would be so damn entertaining. Just the liberal response is worth watching. I will actually fall of my chair if one of the liberals actually swallow their tongues.

As I was watching, I was trying to figure out what this spark is, what's connecting with people.

I think much of it is the fact is that we're so used to the phony, contrived, defensive, rehearsed lawyer-speak of politicians, and he's just so in your face and animated.

Listening to a conservative talk radio show (someone is filling in for Bill Bennett, who, as it turns out, has a radio show). The guest host - like Limbaugh & Hannity & Levin & Savage - is a big Trump fan, and he and his callers are all in complete agreement that the reason Trump is so popular is that he's just so damn honest.

Really?

I wonder if these people are confusing bombast and crazy shit with honesty. And just as I type this, one conservative caller is calling him a "self-serving PT Barnum", which is what I would call him.

Trump has "evolved" on issues, he's insulted anyone who dared to challenge him, he's tossed out any number of ultra-hyperbolic phrases on virtually every issue. Are his fans really sure that he's honest?

.

The issue is not whether he is a "self-serving PT Barnum". He is.

The issue is: Can a Self-Serving P. T. Barnum do better than Socialists like Obama, John Kerry, Susan Rice, Valerie Jarrett...and also can he do better than Pussies like John Boehner & Mitch McConnell.

He is half-crazy. But, he is also intelligent and he has guts. That alone will make him the best man in Washington, D. C.

That sounds about right to me.

I don't know about the question of Trump's honesty. I look at anyone running for president as a liar and they can perhaps show me otherwise. :p Whether he's more honest than the usual politicians or not, he is certainly more entertaining. I'm very curious how far that entertainment value will get him.

I don't remember Perot getting this level of support and, as far as I remember, he seemed more genuinely interested in winning the office. With Trump it's still questionable whether he really is trying to win or using this as a way to advertise himself more than he already does. It's been too long, I don't recall if Perot was as 'in your face' and prone to saying controversial or offensive things as Trump. :dunno:
