You're on the right track. The States should be collecting taxes and then give what's left to the government (if any).

Sounds like the failed articles of confederation to me. Can you believe it has been 300 years since the colonies were founded and folks still consider states more than lines in the sand?

You might want to check that out. Blue states get less than a dollar from the Federal government for every dollar they pay. Red states get MORE than a dollar for every dollar they pay. Money is hemorrhaging from the Blue states to keep the Red states from going under. Blue states economy would be at a surplus without Red states dragging them down. Those are just FACTS.
