I agree with Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on reasons for the Civil War

I always find it funny that ignorant Americans are absolutely convinced that hundreds of thousands of poor White Southerners joined the Confederate army so that rich White Southerners could continue to buy slaves to compete in the job market of the South. Also, that hundreds of thousands of White Northerners that probably never saw a goddamn Negro in their lives put their lives at risk to abolish slavery. That dog don't hunt.

that unionist article reminds me of a family tragedy , my ancestor, a confederate captain, was wounded at shiloh and at gettysburg.

his
father had moved to new orleans from boston, shipping business, and wrote unionist articles in "the delta." after the stars and stripes were raised he could have been called a "collaborator."

that must have sparked some lively conversation at sunday dinner.

the south was full of unionists and there were copperheads all over the north. perhaps civil war is not as popular as some might think?
I don't get your point.

Slavery was an issue

but by far not the only thing separating north and south

These first and second generation imports like Nimarata Randhawa understand very little regarding American history, much less the traditional American philosophy of governance. Their heritages are rooted abroad.

Not that most natives do either, but still.

The Civil War wasn't about endiing slavery. It was about creating a centralized state. Lincoln, like most politicians in Washington today, was a Hamiltonian.

Additionally, Lincoln was not an opponent of slavery.

Spooner ftw...
Besides a "nuh uh" no one will touch this.

Slavery was legal in the US. The real opposition to slavery was by the Northern Republicans that did not want the new territories in the West to be Democrat when they got statehood.

All about political power.

Slavery was part of the cause, another cause was that in the late eighteen fifties the slave states lost control of the federal government because immigration finally overcame the advantage the slaves gave the slave states in the census. Economics also figured into it, the south was falling further and further behind the free states economically. Like most things done by humans, the causes of the ACW were messy.
Though slavery was the major cause. SC said so when they decided to secede.

Few wars once started, stay popular.

My ancestors were all over the place on the coming rebellion in the 1700s. There are rarely ever two sides to an argument.

Slavery was wrong and not consistent with the founding principles of the country

But it was not an issue that most whites in either army were willing to die for

The winners get to write history.

The winners wrote the lie that the war was fought over slavery because that is suppose to raise a moral issue.

The reality is that the war was fought over the oppression of the federal government, run by NE Liberals. Not much different that what is going on now.

The good guys lost. The bad guys won.

You have to respect the aggressively ignorant.
Read the articles of Secession in each state.

They were drafted. Remember, "rich man's War, Poor Man's Fight?" More aggressive ignorance.
Literally only the crackeriest least wealthy of the Old South states still push this nonsense.

Founding Fathers insisted on Slavery

The entire south was willing to fight to keep 40 percent of the population in bondage
