actually i have to disagree with you after a point....because nations such as Sweden do have a "leech class"......able-bodied people who collect welfare....over time this has developed and will ultimately be their undoing unless they correct it....
i can see where western liberal value influence, drug use and decline in traditional Swedish values could trend towards less self-accountability today

thanks....take a look at Sweden where their socialistic "multiculturalism" values have allowed muslim immigration which is overwhelming their welfare program as well as causing horrible crime stats.....Sweden will be muslim in a couple more decades...

First of all, the US's version of socialism does not fit the model of true socialism.

We have programs that fall under socialistic programs (safety nets) such as Social Security and Medicare. But the US isn't even close to the socialistic programs offered by European countries.
The question that arises in my mind is do we need to fix our current system which also isn't working for a huge majority of Americans?
It seems to me that those who are crying and whining about socialism are satisfied with the status quo of wealth/income inequality which factually exists in the US. The continuation of this trend cannot continue, if it does we can say goodbye the Middle Class. If the Middle Class of America continues to weaken or just plain disappears the US economy will continue to slide downwards. There is no rational reason for wanting this to happen, yet it is happening.
Let's not forget that 70% of the US economy is driven by consumer spending. How can this model continue if the Middle Class continues to lose wealth and continues to receive flat wages that don't keep up with inflation?
Yes, capitalism is good as history clearly shows. Unfettered capitalism is not good as the last decade clearly indicates.

You may think that people exist to support you by force..
I think people have the freedom and should have that freedom protected by government, to survive, succeed, fail, be mediocre, or anything else all on their own... and if those people feel the personal need to give, support others, or whatever, they should be afforded the freedom to do so... and if those people don't, you can sneer at them or ridicule them all you want, but you don't have the right to take that freedom away from them (nor does government have that right)
