Using that silly standard would also deny straight folks from marrying that are unable or unwilling to produce children. You a set standard that no one but gays wishing to marry have to follow. No same sex coupling has EVER create a child. Never has, never will. Those children that same sex couples "have", were created using members of opposite sex.

EVERY Man, Woman and Child that ever has, or ever will walk this planet has and will come from a very unique union. Same sex coupling is not at all unique. It CANNOT create a child. Making opposite sex couplings REQUIRED for the existence of the species.

Let me rewrite that: the fed has no place forcing states to incentivize marriages where children caught up in them are guaranteed to be missing one of their blood parents, or the complimenetary gender-as-role-model 100% of the time.

If states want to incentivize both blood parents in the home for the children's benefit (the only reason states get involved in marriage in the first place) then it is that state's right. Period.

well, no, it really isn't. states can't force people to marry or stay married, and sometimes the ohter blood parents is vial full of sperm someone donated to a sperm bank.
