Healthcare System is Rotten

We need to get over the idea that we have a "health care system". We don't. Systems are for socialists. We have a health care market, and it's being polluted and distorted by those trying to make it a "system".

That is a bit over simplistic, but it makes a nice sound bite.

We are more system than market these days, and that will not change.

The Govt, be it Fed or State set the rules and regulations for medical care and hospitals.

The Fed Govt via Medicare is the single largest payer for health care services in the country. As such their reimbursement rates to doctors and hospitals are what the insurance companies use to set their rates. This again is not going to change.

We have laws that force medical providers to give aid to those with life threatening conditions regardless of ability to pay. That would not happen in health care market. And that too will not change as "we the people" are not willing to see people just die to their economic situation.

Everything changes. The question is, do we want more "system" or more freedom.

That's not what would happen. It's just statist fear mongering. According to the systemizers, we'd all suffocate in our own feces with out instructions from government. I'll take freedom over their scare tactics.

Based on voting and the general will of the people we want a system.

Why not? In a totally free market place giving away services is not normally done. Do grocery stores give a way food to anyone that walks in saying they are really hungry or motels give away rooms to help people not freeze during the winter? Nope, they do not. Why would the free medical market be any different?

What is the market solution to replace Medicare?

I don't necessary buy that, but I also don't want a government that blindly implements the "will of the people".

Not normally, but it happens. Charity happens. Community happens. It doesn't need to be mandated by government, and it shouldn't be.

Actually, sometimes, yeah. Not as much when there is the presumption that the government is going to do it for us. But it happens regardless.

Just looked at the US budget 2024. Why I should be surprised? Biden and the US Congress just focused on the Pentagon. Yes, national security( revolving door )always comes first. Make Pentagon great again! lol. :)

Getting rid of Medicare would not doom us. That's statist fear mongering. In any case, the question still remains: More "system", or less?

And die instantly in the streets! C'mon.

There are 65 million people on Medicare. If it goes away, something would have to take it place to cover these 65 million people.

What would that be?

I'm not sure why you're fixated on Medicare. It's as safety net program. A far cry from socializing health care in general, which is what so many "reformers" are after.

Again, more system, or more freedom? I'm sticking with the latter.

Well, as I noted earlier, we don't really have a "healthcare system", so I suppose it would rank pretty low. So what?
When you find out that Lebanon, Botswana, and Bahrain beats US healthcare, you kinda gotta wonder what the heck you're paying for.

That's not what those rankings are measuring. They're measuring who has the "best" socialized health care system. Given that ours is only partially socialized, it will rank low on such a list. So what?

That is not what they are measuring. They are measuring how effective the healthcare is and what level of access the general population have to said healthcare.
