heads up ladies...quit smoking

My sister told me Friday she has blood in her urine. I am going to tell her what you said when she gets home. She smoked for decades, quitting many times but most recently, I think it's been at least five years.

the hardest thing....telling my husband that smoking caused this....i knew damn well the fng was gonna bust me wide open and tell him....my husband begged me to quit for years

You gotta give him this one.

Im sure you win enough debates with him

the rule.......did she smoke a pack a day for 15 years.....if she says yes....she goes to 50/50.....chance of cancer.....then the odds get a wee bit better....70% are non invasive......yall can tell what i have listen to for a while now....fng likes his stats....we finally got into over that shit...but she needs to get to the urologist ....and quit smoking.....i went in on thursday by monday am the tumor was out.....dont waste any time....

She smoked at least a pack a day for over thirty years. She started at thirteen, is now 56. Most of her adult life, she was a smoker.

That is the good news - she won't fight me. She is very health conscious. But I will post back here once she has been in as to the results.

Seriously, thank you. If I hadn't opened this thread ...

i am trying not to be a pain in the ass about this.....but i never knew this....and suddenly i just feel like sharing....i dont think women know this really

Oh jeeez ... I'm glad you got this checked out and got treatment. And hope that they got it all and that it doesn't come back.

I recently read that smoking is linked to far more than just lung-related ailments. And, don't hesitate to tell it like it is. You repeating your story can save lives.

~ Blessed Be ~

Sorry to hear about your experience, hope you are able to over turn it. I quit smoking many years ago and never looked back.....I've never had a desire to smoke again.

Godspeed....Bones......:eusa_pray:

do pass on the story......it appears to be about the only way women get this cancer.....i thought my husband who hates that i smoked would leave my dumbass when he found out the truth of the cause.....that man is a fucking saint.....he accepts that i no longer smoke and is willing to deal with this

i can email her the whole horror story

Actually, smoking is only implicated in half of bladder cancer cases.

Cigarette smoking implicated in half of bladder cancers in women - National Cancer Institute

Current cigarette smokers have a higher risk of bladder cancer than previously reported, and the risk in women is now comparable to that in men, according to a study by scientists from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health. The report was published on Aug. 16, 2011, in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

This latest study uses data from over 450,000 participants in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study, a questionnaire-based study that was initiated in 1995, with follow-up through the end of 2006.

While previous studies showed that only 20 to 30 percent of bladder cancer cases in women were caused by smoking, these new data indicate that smoking is responsible for about half of female bladder cancer cases – similar to the proportion found in men in current and previous studies.

Another bullshit claim and exaggerations designed to frighten people in order to effect behaviour. If you really wanna help people give them only the truth. Lies don't help anyone.

"About 50% of all bladder cancers may be caused by cigarette smoking."
Bladder Cancer Symptoms, Causes, Treatment - What are bladder cancer causes and risk factors? - MedicineNet

Read that carefully. In particular, the "may be caused by" and "about 50%."

Many things in our enviroment and homes are known carcinogens, from American produced makeup (Europe banned such substances long ago,) to furniture that's now always flame retardant, to the dyes that make our clothes pretty, to the very water we bathe in and drink, and inhale (via vapor,) to the very air we breathe.

Knowing what combination fo things led to a cancer in someone is impossible to determine. And linking a cancer to just one risk factor (like smoking,) is junk science.

you do realize you can still cut your chances by 50% ......i am gonna go with what the doctor told me over message board posters...forgive me

They don't. I mean, I don't. She doesn't, or she would have panicked.

Scary stuff.

Now do you have to do chemo or anything?

No, they usually treat it with surgery unless it is going through the bladder wall. That is what you need to look for. Bones' surgery was to get the tumor before it found a way out. Sometimes they do a chemo wash but that doesn't work as well as cutting it out and getting it all.

It's important that you go and get the scopes every three months after to keep an eye on it. They can catch it up to 8 months before you even notice symptoms.

The scopes aren't painful, get your Sis in and get this procedure going.

Dear people getting all twerky in here: SERIOUSLY?! What I took away from this thread is do not disregard blood in urine. And now you're going to try to ... what. Call bullshit on what Bones experienced? Why.

Sometimes I think there's gotta be a downside to spending too much time on a messageboard. It's like reason takes a header.
