Have The Lines Ever Been More Clearly Drawn?

no one ever wants to focus on what people have in common.....why is that? most people want a good job, good health care and a secure place to raise a family
Because people want to resolve the conflicts that negatively effect them. In order to do that; one must focus on the differences.
But focusing on our differences is that which prevents us from resolving our problems. It's a bad cycle. When the ship sinks we are all going down with it.
It's the differences which cause problems ignoring them, doesn't make them go away. When your house is burning down, the family doesn't sit down to discuss how delicious dinner was.
We work together to put the fire out.
Then you do focus on the problem. And as long as you can all agree on how to put it out... It works out. When you don't... You're all getting new living accommodations...
And here we are. The nation is quite firmly, and clearly divided. Neither side seems compelled to give an inch more; or back down. Where do we go from here?
Yes, when the house is burning down we focus on the problem. You said the focus should be on our differences. I think we should focus on what we have in common.

Which accomplishes nothing, when it comes to solving problems. You don’t solve problems by looking at something other than the problem. It might assuage your angst; for a while... But you’ll come face to face with that problem again. And sometimes, when you fail to address a problem; it has a habit of festering into something much more difficult to manage, by the time you decide to actually do something about it.

Do you think it's going to get any "better"?

Of course.
I love America so much that I think we should split it up over petty partisanship.
The differences are becoming less petty every day...

Or more overly-dramatic.
Do you think it's going to get any "better"?

Sure. A good start would be to marginalize those that think the other side is somehow inherently evil for not sharing their beliefs.
The only marginal parties of late; are the moderates... And their numbers are dwindling.
Think maybe the moderates will grow, my self am so sick of all the hate & people picking out some small thing some one on the other side said or did and blowing it up into a big deal.

Anti gun on the left, pro gun on the right. Abortion on the left, pro life on the right.
Mass importation of 3rd world garbage on the left, secure borders, and strict immigration policy on the right.
Socialism on the left, capitalism on the right.

Plus many more...
Have the lines ever been more clearly drawn? Has there ever been a more appropriate time to talk about peacefully going our separate ways? The alternative is likely to cost millions of lives. We as a “Nation” are far beyond coming back “together”. We need leadership to start discussing this issue peacefully, before the people escalate handling it themselves...

The trouble is that for the most part, the truth is in between the 2 extremes. That is why I never voted for Clinton or Trump. Things are going to get bad in this country because of these 2 extremes.

Someone said something on twitter that I agree with. In a room of conservatives, I feel like a liberal. In a room of liberals, I feel like a conservative.

Very true. The biggest schism exists in the ways each side sees as and end to their means. And I'm not talking Rep/Dem because politicians of both parties are out solely for themselves and will promise the "proletariat" anything they think the peons will buy in order to keep their political power.
There is a divide between those who want those things and are willing to take personal responsibility for making their lives the way they want them to be and think their failure is theirs. Mostly, they just want to be left alone, especially by an over-reaching government driven by political motives. The others feel that only government that has promised them all those things is capable of delivering it to them. Their failure is viewed as the result of "the others" preventing government from providing them birth-to-death comfort and freedom from effort to acquire it.
