Even releasing the hostages would not be enough to stop the war now. Hamas has proved that the government of Israel cannot protect the Israeli people by just defending the border. The only way to prevent Hamas from continuing to terrorize Israelis with ever more dangerous weapons is to destroy Hamas. Since a major part of Hamas' military strategy is to use civilians as human shields, there will likely be a high number of civilian casualties, but if Israel fails to destroy Hamas there will be more and more Israeli civilian casualties.Yes, Israel's war is against Hamas.
