Guess what Republicans? We really need the Dept of Education, EPA and Energy

Our environment is doing pretty well? Might wanna talk to the farmers and ranchers in Texas where there's a pretty bad drought, or talk to the farmers who have gotten flooded out.

Sorry, our environment needs some cleaning up.

Droughts and floods happen. They happened well before the industrial age. They will continue to happen regardless how "clean" the environment is, until you can develop the means to control weather patterns.

Wanna talk about the fracking that has turned the watertables into flammable substances in the Northeast? How about the fracking that is causing earthquakes in OK and AR?

Ahh winger, it's just the next attack. You hear them already say that very few people should go to college, In fact the Extremist Right wing radio talks about the evils of education all the time... that they are brainwashing people into "liberal" thinking.

The truth is... the more ignorant our population is, the more the Powerful elite can control us and they know it. I can see the next iteration now... "our grandparents only had 8th grade educations and they turned out OK... in fact, they thrived"

What is wrong with being a plumber? or an electrican? What degree do you need to own a deli, or be a runner on the stock exchange? All we are doing with making it seem college is mandatory is make people delay going into the workforce by 4-6 years, increase the number of applicants for relatively scant numbers of positions that actually NEED a degree, and burden young people with tons of debt before they even work a single day.

What is better, someone becoming a mason right out of high school, or someone who wastes 4 years on a conceptual theatre degree, goes 120k in debt, and becomes a mason at 25?

There's nothing wrong with being a plumber.... if that is your calling. There's nothing wrong with owning a deli... if that is your calling.

Let me ask you something... when was the last time you looked for a decent job? I mean, not a clerk at McDonald's but a real career.

Let me ask you another thing. Who the fuck are you or anyone else to deny kids the opportunity to better themselves? Because the next thing in this line of thinking is to kill student aid, so that only the kids who can "AFFORD" to go to school will be able to do so.... and may the Oligarchy continue.

Your "Conceptual Theater Degree" Bullshit is just that... hyperbolic bullshit.

LOL. I thought you wanted to talk about droughts and flooding and changing weather patterns. My bad. Sure, knock yourself out talking about underground activities.

What do we need the pesky EPA for. We needs lots of chemicals and raw sewage in our water. And lots of chemicals in the air we breathe as well.
Rivers catching on fire were entertaining.
And who needs to swim or eat fish anyway.

How can people get so stupid. Doing away with the EPA? A prime example though of a failed education system.

That would be getting rid of the federal EPA.

States can do what they like.

How does that jive with your education ?

The environment belongs to everyone. There is no way to contain pollution from one state from flowing to another state

But unless they are union, masons seldom get health insurance as a benefit.
Now if we had single payor health insurance...

And since the right is against socialist health care and unions....

Anyone old enough to remember how out of control pollution was prior to the EPA is not on board with destroying our ability to regulate polluters. It was absolutely awful, Toxic dumps littered the landscape, rivers regularly caught fire, black smoke poured from smoke stacks and exhaust pipes. We would be fools to allow that again.

If kids today had the same kind of 8th grade education as their grandparents, they too would thrive. An 8th grade education today is more like a 4th grade education in Grandpa's time.

We have an educational system designed not to teach and children not to learn.

And do you know what Conservatives said?

Think of the lost jobs if we have to clean up our own mess

Nothing to worry about.

The EPA helped make is so costly to manufacture here in America, they are now doing it elsewhere.

Regulate polluters ? You should have heard Kathleen Sebelius make an ass out of herself when defending her illegal decision deny coal fired power plants in western Kansas a permit to expand.

That power was going to come from somewhere....but NOT Kansas (by Gollly). Let Nebraska pollute their air (much of which comes to us in the winter). It was relly sad to hear this woman sound almost as bad as Joe Biden.

What could be worse than closing down key agencies at critical points in our history?

At a time when our children are falling woefully behind other countries, Republicans want to kill the Dept of Education

At a time when Greenhouse gasses are affecting our climate.......Republicans want to close the Environmental Protection Agency

At a time when we are at the whim of an unstable middle east for oil imports......Republicans want to close the Dept of Energy

Fucking neocons. Liberals that just think government exists to serve a few instead of everyone.

I worked at a chemical manufacturing site where many of the younger engineers were deeply concerned with the environment. We frequently had to take the EPA into our plants for inspection of specific emmission points. We'd walk right past things that should have been much higher on their radar but were not because it wasn't in some manual or law somewhere. Thank goodness the company was good enough to self regulate.

But we could (yes could) have legally poured all kinds of stuff into the atmosphere. But didn't. But the EPA was there to inspect things like emissions from footing excavations (had to have an air permit if you were going more that two feet down....now that was useful) on schedule.

In what year were each of these agencies formed and what have been the improvements that they have rendered?

Well after the stunning successes of above mentioned agency's,ya I'd be shocked also!

They sell all those hi-tech water filtration systems now. You can be responsible for your own water.

The EPA forced the return of thousands of acres of farmland to lie fallow when it shut the water off to the Calfornia central valley. Which was pretty good news to the countries who now export us our food. The EPA declared dust a pollutant to fine people in rural areas when dust is blown by the wind. The EPA is evil, has outlived its usefulness and should GO.

The Republicans want to get rid of the Dept. of Education, because they are so prone to gaffes, that they don't want the rest of us to be smart enough to notice.

They want to get rid of the EPA, because the less regulations and clean up you have to do, the more money you can put towards your profits. Only trouble is, eventually we won't have a sustainable environment to live in anymore.

And yeah........they want to get rid of the Dept. of Energy and replace it with Dept. of Oil and Drilling. Who needs green energy?

Every state in the USA has an EPA. Every one has a department of Education. Our department of Energy is not doing the most important thing that it needs to do which is to provide plentiful and affordable energy.

Our children can't read the diplomas they are given upon graduation, the EPA is allowing the Executive Branch to dictate from the whim of one man and the DOE is ...

What the hell is the DOE doing? No nuclear. No drilling. No pipelines. They should be called the DO no E.

Addictions are hard to beat, when you do pain has been a big part of recovery, somewhere in the middle is a reasonable state, major cuts in spending must happen.

Just between you and me, Steel? If the youngsters hanging out down at those OWS rallies are the "intelligent" result of having a Department of Education then I'd say it's time for that Department to fade away into obscurity.

I'm not seeing a lot of critical thinking being displayed by the OWS'ers. As a matter of fact they come across as rather naive and simple minded. Now maybe that's the result of sparking up a few too many doobies before they tried to articulate their demands but all I know that listening to them try to run a meeting is the funniest thing I've ever heard.

Sooo.... you're saying there needs to be stronger regulations then? I agree!
