Guess what Republicans? We really need the Dept of Education, EPA and Energy

Wanna talk about the fracking that has turned the watertables into flammable substances in the Northeast? How about the fracking that is causing earthquakes in OK and AR?

Do you believe every leftwing paranoid conspiracy story every conceived?

You have to be the most gullible member of this forum.

Let me ask you another thing. Who the fuck are you or anyone else to deny kids the opportunity to better themselves? Because the next thing in this line of thinking is to kill student aid, so that only the kids who can "AFFORD" to go to school will be able to do so.... and may the Oligarchy continue.

Your "Conceptual Theater Degree" Bullshit is just that... hyperbolic bullshit.

What you seem to forget, turd, is that it's our money, not theirs. I have every right in the world to determine what's done with my money. You have no right whatsoever. You're nothing but a thug. You just enunciated the ethos of the thug.

3. Department of Energy inspects our nuclear facilities and supports national labs. Who needs 'em?

Not he people who live close to three mile island.

Then there was the plant near sacramento that could not get an operating license because of political hackery.

I agree, who needs em.

Anyone old enough to remember how out of control pollution was prior to the EPA is not on board with destroying our ability to regulate polluters. It was absolutely awful, Toxic dumps littered the landscape, rivers regularly caught fire, black smoke poured from smoke stacks and exhaust pipes. We would be fools to allow that again.

The EPA is way beyond being out of control. It needs to be reigned in - back to where it was about 1990. It shouldn't be allowed to add one new regulation without a vote of Congress.

Ahh winger, it's just the next attack. You hear them already say that very few people should go to college, In fact the Extremist Right wing radio talks about the evils of education all the time... that they are brainwashing people into "liberal" thinking.

The truth is... the more ignorant our population is, the more the Powerful elite can control us and they know it. I can see the next iteration now... "our grandparents only had 8th grade educations and they turned out OK... in fact, they thrived"

What is wrong with being a plumber? or an electrican? What degree do you need to own a deli, or be a runner on the stock exchange? All we are doing with making it seem college is mandatory is make people delay going into the workforce by 4-6 years, increase the number of applicants for relatively scant numbers of positions that actually NEED a degree, and burden young people with tons of debt before they even work a single day.

What is better, someone becoming a mason right out of high school, or someone who wastes 4 years on a conceptual theatre degree, goes 120k in debt, and becomes a mason at 25?

There's nothing wrong with being a plumber.... if that is your calling. There's nothing wrong with owning a deli... if that is your calling.

Let me ask you something... when was the last time you looked for a decent job? I mean, not a clerk at McDonald's but a real career.

Let me ask you another thing. Who the fuck are you or anyone else to deny kids the opportunity to better themselves? Because the next thing in this line of thinking is to kill student aid, so that only the kids who can "AFFORD" to go to school will be able to do so.... and may the Oligarchy continue.

I actually went to school for engineering. masters in ChemE. I work as an engineer, so my degree directly correlates to my employment, and I have been working for the same company for 13 years, as I basically do whatever project they need me for. Design, research, construction, etc.

Its not about denying someone anything, its about selling them this crap that higher education is for everyone, and a degree is the only means towards a sucessful career. i was top 2 in my class in grade school, top 4 in high school, then only in the top 10% in college because i chose a hard degree, and for once actually had to study and work at school. College was a no brainer for me because of my aptitude for academics.

We have stigmatized manual labor and trade level work for a whole generation of people, basically selling college as a needed step towards employment.

The US isn't ranked that badly in education, worldwide. Around 14th place.

The interesting thing is that all of the other countries that are doing better than us have much stronger centralized education systems then we do.

My understanding is that most of the nations that have good systems let parents choose the school where they want to send their kid.

I don't know how it could be more centralized than ours. Furthermore, centralization isn't the issue. Government control is the issue. It doesn't matter that much whether it's federal, state or local.

The claim that "privatizing" or "de-regulating" education will somehow make it better is moronic.

Liberals believe facts are moronic.

But unless they are union, masons seldom get health insurance as a benefit.
Now if we had single payor health insurance...

And since the right is against socialist health care and unions....

Trades are the one area where unions actually can be a good idea, as most of them handle retirement, health care, and fringes themselves, while the construction company in question only has to pay a set rate per hour in benefits. The downside is those pension plans draws organized crime like a flame draws a moth.

What could be worse than closing down key agencies at critical points in our history?

At a time when our children are falling woefully behind other countries, Republicans want to kill the Dept of Education

nobody is calling for closing down schools. It just makes no sense to tax us, send the money to Washington to the department of education only so they can send the money back to states (after skimming their share for admin costs of course)

My question would be, why can't we just let states do their own taxing and let them run their own education systems. No need for the federal governement to get involved.

Same concept at the EPA, no reason to get the federal government involved... Most of the power should be with the states or better yet dealt out on the county level where the people have the most control over their government... Where's the benefit of consolidating all the power in DC??

It's too hard to control our government when their is too many idiots who vote for dangerous politicians like Pelosi, Obama, Waters, Reid??

On the local level it is far easier to communicate with your neighbors and force positive results... A central government is too much of a loose cannon.

I mean 15 trillion in debt?!? Why isn't this frightening liberals? We are heading for a third world banana republic.... Unless that is the goal of the progressive movement... Now that I think about it, that's exactly what they want.

And of course, you don't get back what you pay in if you are a red state. Think about all those favors that your money will be used to buy in places like CA where we are educating half of Mexico.

At a time when Greenhouse gasses are affecting our climate.......Republicans want to close the Environmental Protection Agency

At a time when we are at the whim of an unstable middle east for oil imports......Republicans want to close the Dept of Energy

FYI, Perry wants to Education, Energy, and Commerce, not the EPA.

FYI, the US spends more money on education per student than any of the countries we are falling behind. Before the Dept of Education existed America was considered one of the best countries in the world for education. Why does spending more money on something that made things worse make sense?

We import less than 10% of our oil from the Mideast. Can you tell me exactly why we need the Dept of Energy to worry about that?

Just what does the dept of energy do anyway ????

Oh yeah...inspect nuclear power plants....like Three Mile Island.

At a time when our children are falling woefully behind other countries, Republicans want to kill the Dept of Education

Department of Education, signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, began operations in 1980.

Jimmy Carter's gift to the teachers unions. Somehow we were able to survive without it and be quite competitive internationally. Now education is regarded as a joke in the United States. It is perhaps the most useless of the Departments. Good riddance. Let education go back to the states and let parents have greater control over their childrens' education, not the government, not the labor unions.

At a time when Greenhouse gasses are affecting our climate.......Republicans want to close the Environmental Protection Agency

The Environmnetal Protection Agency, proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operations in 1970.

Perhaps the biggest intrusion into our private propery rights and personal freedoms and unnecessary hinderance of production and wealth. Especially now under manufactured "climate change" fears. I say good riddance and good riddance to California's version of this monstrosity, the California Air Resources Boards (CARB)

At a time when we are at the whim of an unstable middle east for oil imports......Republicans want to close the Dept of Energy

Another creation by President Jimmy Carter, signed and began operations in 1977.

Of the three agencies listed, seemingly the most useful of the three, though we ought to be doing far more in localized oil production, yet hindered by the EPA and Dept of Interior. I haven't looked into this department enough to have a hard desire to see its elimination.

Romney isn't about cut any of these dept. Cain plans to fix them not cut them. Perry can't remember which ones he would cut.

I like Cains idea of how to fix it..... Put the people who are most negatively affected by the EPA in charge of the EPA.

What do we need the pesky EPA for. We needs lots of chemicals and raw sewage in our water. And lots of chemicals in the air we breathe as well.
Rivers catching on fire were entertaining.
And who needs to swim or eat fish anyway.

How can people get so stupid. Doing away with the EPA? A prime example though of a failed education system.

Sometimes you say shit that just sounds so fucking stupid that I laff... And without 10 wars on terror we would be nuked tomorrow... See how retarded I sound?

The Department of Education is nothing but a pass through agency, taking federal taxes and re-distributing them back to the states, with of course, the usual burecratic overhead. All the DoEd should be doing is setting basic standards. it should have a 1/10th of the budget is has now.

The EPA actually has some merit federally, as things done in one state affect another. what needs to happen however, is streamlining of the process, with elimination of the duplication found at both the federal level and the state level. An owner/operator of process "X" should be able to go to one level of agency, either state or federal, depending on the process and the location. Also any EPA regulation needs to have a strict backing in legislation, not just a blanket "you can now regulate this" edict.

The DoE should either go away, or take any energy production portfolio from the Department of the Interior. Also if it has juristiction, it should absorb any state regulatory role, again, for process X, you should only have to go to one agency for approval, not 2 or 5.
Doing away with the DoE would accomplish nothing except to increase cost. All the years of legislation would still exist as would the many agencies in the DOE responsible for enforcing those laws. The various agencies would probably be moved to Interior, and the NRC with some programs going to commerce or maybe the Corp of Engineers which would result in a duplication of work and added cost. There is only two ways to cut the cost, eliminate the laws so there is no need for agencies to enforce the laws or reduce the budget of the department forcing the agencies to cut cost. Anything else is political nonsense.
