Green Agenda Dangerous = CFL bulbs

Are incandescent bulbs going to banned/not made/not available starting next year?

Can the manufacturers 're-group' and sell incandescents as 'small heaters'? I read that they did that I think over in the U.K. to get around the ban.
A likely scenario.

Lat time wage and price controls were tried, under Nixon, butchers and restaurants changed the name of filet mignon to "baseball" and sold the steak for market prices.

What happens when a clutz like me knocks over an entire display of those freakin' curly light bulbs in the store? Will the store shut down for a week while they air it out?

I think I could sell tickets to this event......

Outlawing Incandescents is not nothing, it's draconian and Totalitarian.

Draconian and totalitarian? Get real. It's just that you don't agree with the underlying reasoning for the change. :cuckoo:

It's clear that you don't agree with the underlying concept of Individual Liberty which is the basis of much of the Constitution.

A. This is s general political discussion board, so I don't feel I'm tied to what any particular piece of paper says. This isn't a Constitutional Law forum, after all.

B. The Constitution is amendable, therefore, what it says today may be different tomorrow.

C. Your individual liberty only extends to the tip of my nose. Ruining the environment is not one of the "liberties" I'm willing to extend to you.

Tell me how something as innocuous as a light bulb is a threat to your rights?

I don't want a cfl anywhere near me as I tend to stay away from poisonous things like mercury.

That would have to be the magilla of all klutziness to knock over AND have enough force to break significant numbers of bulbs. Well, the glass would be contained inside the packaging, so that disposal would be simple. As for airing out the place, why would that take a week? You should be able to replace all the air in even a mega-mart in an hour or two. You're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with that concern!

Your health is much more likely to be effected by unmufflered Harleys than a CFL.

But you said it was incandescent lights, so which is it?

Mercury is a poison, I tend not to want poison in my home.

I'd wager you have many and most are at a much more deadly concentrations than the mercury in CFLs and not nearly as protected from us and the environment as the bulbs are. Are we to believe that suddenly bulbs are breaking all over the place? In my experience that's rare event.

The cfls that end up in the landfill will break and what will happen to all that mercury?

And don't give me the "Everyone will recycle them properly" crap because you know as well as I that more of those bulbs will end up in the landfill than the recycling bin.

Another classic example of the Global Warming fanatics going too far. These bulbs are actually very dangerous. Our Government should not be forcing Citizens to buy them. If you want to use these bulbs than so be it. Just don't force the rest of us to use them. This is the main problem with the Global Warming fanatics. They want to use force through Government mandates. It really is part of a Global Socialist movement. Most Global Warming fanatics are diehard Left Wingers. Their just trying to strong-arm people now. These bulbs should not be forced on Citizens. End of story.

Lordy, lordy, I bet all most all these wingnuts yapping about the CFLs have flourecents in their homes. And, as stated before, don't like CFLs, buy LEDs.

With or without alternative generation, we will see continueing increases in the price of electricity. And conservation is the cheapest way to keep the rise in price as small as possible. Lighting is one of the major uses of electricity, and if we can reduce the amount used doing that by 50% or more, it is a plus for everybody.

I don't care. And you are pulling 50% out of thin air, since light bulbs comprise damn little of total electricity consumption.

No. it's been shown the incandescent bulbs cost much more in the long run.
