GOP Hopeful, Rand Paul, compares the right to health care to slavery...

He is 100% correct. You have no "right" to healthcare.

And yet, he has a "right" to that very same health care except that he doesn't have to pay for himself.

That's what the taxpayers (slaves) are for.

How about you read this so you won't be so fucking ignorant.

Health Care for Members of Congress

If you should decide to read your own link, pay reeel close attention to the part that says "... government pays a large share of the cost of coverage..."

Just who do you think "government" is?

And who do you think works to pay his salary?

Keep in mind too that, whether its a work benefit or all out of pocket, we pay 100% of any coverage we get. IOW, he and other pubs don't want Americans to get the same affordable cost that he enjoys and that we pay for.

Yet you made the claim that he doesn't have to pay for it when he pays the same share as any other federal employee. You're the one that made the ignorant statement, you should be thanking me for curing that particular instance of ignorance. You now have informed yourself so if you make a similar statement in the future that would prove, 1. you're senile or 2. too stupid to learn. Carry on.

The main point being made is that today is Rand Paul's turn to capture headlines by saying stupid stuff that patronizes the rw nut base.
Well, I think the link was an old one. But, it brings up an odd point. Rand complains that the fed govt could tell him who to treat and how much to charge. But the fed govt already pretty well sets the amount private insures will pay for a procedure. I don't see why the federal govt couldn't tell docs they have to take the medicare rate and not charge individuals more ..... BECAUSE the govt already does that with Medicaid.

Actually, the government doesn't set insurers payments - that is determined by the market. The government does, however, have the right to determine Medicare/Medicaid/Tricare payments (since they are the insurer).

Commercial insurance is a contract between the doctor and the insurer - that is why your doctor will accept some insurances and not others.
Actually, what occurs is private insurers just go with the medicare rates.

In Setting Doctors Medicare Fees CMS Almost Always Accepts The Relative Value Update Panel s Advice On Work Values

Some doctor groups take the medicare rate without trying to charge seniors more. Doctors are explicitly prohibited from charging more that Medicaid rates.

Whether docs charge you more than your private insurer charges is negotiated.

But the point was, most insurers just go with the medicare rates.

And, constitutionally, Medicaid can cap what a doc can charge for a service ... if he wants to provide services Medicaid pays for. So, with single payor, docs could choose between taking what the govt offers ... or moving to Belize or somewhere.

Sorry - that's not true. Medicare rates do not determine insurer payouts. Read your article again ...

How is he wrong? A "right" is something you have that cannot be abridged. It is not something you can force others to provide for you. You have the right, for example, to free political speech. That means you can say whatever you want to about a politician. You don't, though, have the right to force your neighbor to pay for commercial time so you can say those things on TV. You can have the "right" to healthcare to the extent that no one can legally prevent you from accessing it, but forcing your neighbor to pay for your health insurance is not a right. Forcing one person to work for another person is.....

If a person doesn't have access to health care they can die. A person has the right to live.

If you disagree then all yours and conservatives screaming about abortion and right to life is just the lie I've believed it is for many decades.
On the contrary, you have the right to access healthcare. No one will stop you. What you DON'T have the right to do is force other people to pay for it. That would be no different from going into your neighbor's house and taking his money at gunpoint to pay for your Viagra. And, your last sentence is beyond stupid, thus ignored.

I'm not forcing anyone to pay for my health care. I get my insurance through my husband's work. We pay monthly premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

If you feel that the government shouldn't subsidize insurance for those who can't afford it then you don't believe that everyone has a right to life.

Maybe you should start whining about all the subsidies to so many corporations and people in our nation. You may not like subsidies but anyone who buys a house is being subsidized by the government by the deduction they get off their taxes for the interest. Just about all deductions off taxes are a subsidy.

But you show that the garbage you and others spew about right to life and abortion is nothing but all lies. If you don't believe that Americans have the right to health care and help to pay for if they can't afford it, then you don't believe that Americans have a right to life.

If you want people to be able to afford their own health care then you better stop fighting and making excuses to not raise the minimum wage. You selfishly advocate that the minimum wage not be raised. How do you expect people to afford health care if they aren't making much money? And how about advocating for those minimum wage employers to offer low cost insurance? If you don't want to pay for it then advocate for those minimum wage employers do what most other employers do and offer low cost insurance to their employees.

What you don't realize is that you're paying for it already and have been for decades. Only you're paying at the highest rate because those without insurance go to the ER where the rates are many times higher than a regular doctor's office. So you will always be paying for someone else's health care. I'm just advocating that we pay as little as possible. You want to pay as much as possible.

It's funny, you have no problem with rich corporations and rich people getting all those subsidies they don't need but a person who isn't rich who needs heath care, you want them to die because you don't want to pay for their health care even though you've been doing that for decades.

Slavery forced the sale of the children of slaves. Slavery many times lead to sexual assault and rape. Slavery enabled Masters to use lethal punishment when ever they wished.

So basically, Paul does not understand slavery. If he does make the General, which I doubt he does, this statement will be used against him.

What a fucking idiot you are. Slavery takes many forms and the crap you're spewing are the extremes, get a fucking clue already.

Another intellectual response from a RW loon. Thanks!

You determine the response, you get ridiculous and you get what you deserve.

If you believe everyone has a right to life why do you support abortion on demand?

Rand Paul Right to health care is slavery - Kate Nocera - POLITICO.com

“With regard to the idea whether or not you have a right to health care you have to realize what that implies. I am a physician. You have a right to come to my house and conscript me. It means you believe in slavery. You are going to enslave not only me but the janitor at my hospital, the person who cleans my office, the assistants, the nurses. … You are basically saying you believe in slavery,” said Paul (R-Ky.), who is an ophthalmologist.

Good grief! Is this guy the best the GOP can find? :ack-1:
Holy crap, he really said that?

This is the kind of stuff the GOP candidates have to minimize or eliminate.

What's next, Hitler comparisons?

Was it, or was it not, a personal attack?

What makes you think his indiscretion authorizes yours?

He is 100% correct. You have no "right" to healthcare.

You are correct that we do not, but that does not mean that we should not. Of course, this is the reason so many other countries have passed us by and why the US is no longer the greatest country in the world, because we have stopped caring about everyday people. Sure, the US still gives more people the best opportunity to make something of themselves from nothing, but that is actually quite rare in comparison to the average person who just wants to live their life, go to work, raise a family, and know that they won't find themselves out on the street should something bad happen to them.

Wrong...substandard government healthcare that is healthcare in name only is what the democrats are creating....they don't care about healing people, they care about controlling healthcare and the money needed to fund it. Taking care of those without healthcare does not require the federal government to mangage it...we could easily give uninsured or hard to insur vouchers to buy coverage....but then...the democrats and their minions in the federal bueacracy wouldn't have control over them....

So who is going to give the uninsured or hard to insure these vouchers that you speak of?

You find the truth unpleasant, do you?

Rand Paul was born about 200 years too late to be the pro-slavery states rightser he surely would have been back then.

I know you graduated from a government school controlled by the education wing of the democrat party....so you don't understand history, the truth or reality......but how is Rand Paul being against the government setting doctors wages being pro fucking slavery.....do you even think before you post....

Oh...I get it....you think you just have to say Ramd Paul is pro slavery....then your lefty nitwit fellow travelers will take up that point up and repeat it like trained seals and then the democrats in the main stream press will push the idea and wherever he goes they will ask him..." Senator Paul...why do you support slavery" and then your smear job will be complete....

You leftists, are vile and disgusting human beings....

It is logical to speculate that Rand Paul would have been a states right champion from Kentucky in the 1800's,

which makes it therefore logical to speculate that he would have supported his state's right to keep slavery legal.

It's "logicial" only in your twisted mind.

To compare the "right to healthcare" to slavery is beyond the pale. Paul evidently does not understand what slavery was in the south. His statement is both ignorant and insulting to anyone who genuinely believes slavery was a travesty in the history of this country.

His statement has proven he is not worthy of being considered a true contender for the White House.

Wrong.

When a guy like Rand Paul is still clinging to the legitimacy of Jim Crow principles in the 21st century,

it's hardly a leap to transport that mindset back 200 years and see it supporting slavery.

Jim Crow is government enforced segregation, so all you proved is that you're an ignorant asshole.

Southern states protected the right of businesses to discriminate.
