Garry Kasparov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the Soviet Union in 1963, and is a chess grandmaster who became the youngest undisputed world champion when he was 22 years old, He still holds the record for the longest reign at number one.
Kasparov was one of the first prominent Soviets to call for democratic and market reforms and was an early supporter of Boris Yeltsin’s push to break up the Soviet Union. And, in 2012, he was named chairman of the New York-based Human Rights Foundation, succeeding Vaclav Havel. HRF promotes individual liberty worldwide and organizes the Oslo Freedom Forum. Facing imminent arrest during Putin’s crackdown, Kasparov moved from Moscow to New York City in 2013. He has lived there in forced exile ever since.
Due to his personal experience with the Putin dictatorship, Kasparov has warned U.S. citizens and officials repeatedly, to expect Russia’s meddling in our elections. He has been doing so for seventeen years. When it finally happened in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, his response was, “I told you so.”
In his book, “Winter Is Coming,” Kasparov “warned of Putin’s rise as a dictator on the global stage — said he voiced his concerns about the Russian president to anyone who would listen.”
During a 2007 conference in Washington, D.C., while speaking to other attendees, Kasparov stated, “ ‘Putin is not a democratically elected leader — he is a dictator.’ He then made it clear to all that, ‘Putin was a bad guy. He was Russia’s problem, but if he wasn’t contained, he would be a regional problem — and soon after, everybody’s problem.’ ”
While speaking at the University Club near Trump Tower Kasparov said, “ ‘Donald Trump had more Russian connections than Aeroflot.’ and, ‘While I believe in coincidences, I also believe in the KGB.’ ”
Kasparov knows better than any American the unfortunate truth, that propaganda works. And understands from years of experience that, “Russia’s spread of so-called fake news across American social media networks — part of a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining the U.S. elections — was ‘nothing new for us in Russia.’ ” And that it worked just as well in the United States’ 2016 election.
The Russian’s success in implementing Putin’s strategy to assure his desired outcome in 2016 will undoubtedly carry over to the 2018 mid-term elections and beyond. It’s obvious the Republican majority in congress has no plans to prevent this, which proves the conservatives’ “patriotism” is every bit as fake as their belief in “Christian values” and the Constitution.
“Kasparov said that to combat Putin, Americans must put value in democracy and the truth.” And, that, “ ‘You can’t defend yourself against Putin and the Putins of this world if you don’t believe what they are attacking is worth defending.’ ”
The conservatives’ justification of the idiot trump's scandals, corruption, and all of his lies prove they value party over country, and want their beloved Republicans to continue to ignore the danger Putin’s cyber attacks pose to the Unites States and other democracies. Of course, when the U.S. inevitably falls apart and Putin becomes the most powerful man in the world, conservatives, still refusing to leave their alternate reality, will blame Obama and the Democrats' congressional minority for their “failures”.
