OK, once again we're stuck with a situation that never should have happened. At some point, this cop had a Civics class and was told about the Bill of Rights. During his training as a cop, they had to mention the Fourth Amendment. Yet apparently Police Officer Aaron Westby figured that did not apply since he was a cop now.

The District Attorney agreed, and dropped all charges that Aaron Westby arrested Enan Heneghan for. The City Attorney was so sure that he offered to settle about an hour after receiving the letter notifying the City that the wrongfully arrested man was going to sue.

Man awarded $150K in Fort Collins Police misconduct case; Says officer should be fired

The city of Fort Collins probably feels lucky that they didn't have to pay more. The victim probably wonders why he didn't demand more, knowing that the City would have paid a lot more money if it had gone to a jury.

Cops, and Cop Lovers. You don't get the enter the house just because you want to. The Bill of Rights protects others, not just you when someone accuses you of a crime.

Someone should suggest that Officer Aaron Westby find a new line of work, something more in keeping with his skill set. Perhaps he could manage to ask the really important question. "Would you like an apple pie with that?"
