The governor stated that such reforms were already in place elsewhere. I dont see anything on that being elaborated. If there are already reforms in place to prevent these things, this legislation is meaningless.
However, I also dont see anything particularly wrong in the legislation. How is prohibiting people from using food stamps on things other than food going to prevent people from getting their necessities? I think the Governor's reasoning needs to be fleshed out a little more.
Since I lack the information I just mentioned, I am not going to make a judgment whether the decision was right or wrong, though im inclined to support the restrictions and I am not sure why vetoing them is a good thing for anyone or why passing the bill will keep people from getting food.
I also agree that there is a spiritual poverty. Much like the famine Amos predicted:
Of course, the Word of God is available, but we cant force people to feast. It's a shame. This isnt the dark ages anymore.

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)
