Food Stamps OK For Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry

1) Should not have to even stipulate this.. and it shows the pitiful state our country is because it has to be stipulated
2) But we should not have welfare anyway...

Food stamps is a different program from welfare, just sayin.

No kidding, the dumb fuck OP apparently doesn't even know how to read their own links,..

Hey ignorant fuck. It depends on what state you're in. Some states will give you basically a loaded debit card for the month and you can do anything you want with it while others give you two different cards one for food and one that is basically loaded with free cash.

Learn what you're talking about before you start twiddling your fingers...

There is no true poverty in the United States of America.
That is, material poverty. But there is spiritual poverty, poverty of character.
And there is a virulent political philosophy that encourages taking, rather than earning....
...pleading and demanding based on envy.

Food stamps for those who need food, and cannot provide for themselves...an old and honorable heritage in America: "On January 6, 1657 twenty-eight “Scottish men” signed the Laws Rules and Order of the Poor Boxes Society” in Boston, New England and formed the Scots’ Charitable Society."

But what the Left has made common is a blemish on the nation and the people...

1."Mass Gov. Deval Patrick Vetoes Ban On Using Welfare EBT Cards To Purchase Porn, Tattoos, Manicures Because It Would “Humiliate Poor People”…No surprise he’s a close friend of Barack Obama (Axelrod ran his first campaign for Mass governor).

2. Patrick vetoed the reforms Sunday while signing the state’s $32.5 billion budget.

3. According to the Boston Herald, which first reported the veto, the governor berated the legislature’s stab at banning the purchase of specific items like manicures, tattoos, guns, porn, body piercings, jewelry, and bail by saying the move was “political grandstanding” at a time when such reforms are already on track elsewhere.

4. “I’m not going to do anything that makes vulnerable people beg for their benefits. This notion of humiliating poor people has got to be separated from how we make a program, and frankly separated and disposed of, from how we make a program work and work well,” Patrick said,...

5. Patrick allowed bans on the use of EBT cards in establishments known for the sale of seemingly controversial items — such as tattoo parlors, gun shops, casinos, cruise ships, and adult entertainment facilities —- to stand."
Exposing Liberal Lies: Deval Patrick OKs Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry with Food Stamps

We live in a time when the welfare industry needs to convinced well-meaning folks that there is a 'need.'
Rather it is a 'want.'

Consider the above when you vote.
''5. Patrick allowed bans on the use of EBT cards in establishments known for the sale of seemingly controversial items — such as tattoo parlors, gun shops, casinos, cruise ships, and adult entertainment facilities —- to stand."

got a reading problem PC?

The governor stated that such reforms were already in place elsewhere. I dont see anything on that being elaborated. If there are already reforms in place to prevent these things, this legislation is meaningless.

However, I also dont see anything particularly wrong in the legislation. How is prohibiting people from using food stamps on things other than food going to prevent people from getting their necessities? I think the Governor's reasoning needs to be fleshed out a little more.

Since I lack the information I just mentioned, I am not going to make a judgment whether the decision was right or wrong, though im inclined to support the restrictions and I am not sure why vetoing them is a good thing for anyone or why passing the bill will keep people from getting food.

I also agree that there is a spiritual poverty. Much like the famine Amos predicted:

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)

Of course, the Word of God is available, but we cant force people to feast. It's a shame. This isnt the dark ages anymore.

"The governor stated that such reforms were already in place elsewhere. I dont see anything on that being elaborated. If there are already reforms in place to prevent these things, this legislation is meaningless."

Now it's up to you to explain why the legislators instituted the bans....

....you want to pretend that what Patrick says is true?
He's a politician like Barack Obama....

Or make the argument that Massachusetts politicians are conservative?

Pick your poison.

There is no true poverty in the United States of America.

This is patently false. I have seen it. A lot of it.

If the government was not providing assistance to the poor, there would be so many of them evident that even you would not be able to avoid seeing them.

The irony is that because the government is providing assistance in the way of heat, food, and shelter that you can sit there and claim there are no poor because you don't see anyone without heat, food, or shelter!

I know you've bought the hype....but I can document 'poor' folks who have more than you have....at least more than I have.

Wise up.

"Why are such people called “poor”? Because they meet the arbitrary criteria established by Washington bureaucrats. Depending on what criteria are used, you can have as much official poverty as you want, regardless of whether it bears any relationship to reality.

Those who believe in an expansive, nanny state government need a large number of people in “poverty” to justify their programs. They also need a large number of people dependent on government to provide the votes needed to keep the big nanny state going.
Politicians, welfare state bureaucrats and others have incentives to create or perpetuate hoaxes, whether about poverty in general or hunger in particular. The high cost to taxpayers is exceeded by the even higher cost of lost opportunities for fulfillment in their lives by those who succumb to the lure of a stagnant life of dependency."

Must read. :clap2:

The poor have so much already provided that there is little left to spend money on and they do have a right to happiness and pocket money it's part of the dignity that we must also pay for.

The children in poor families get 3 meals a day at school. Mom may buy cookies, popcorn and chips for at home snacks. If mom feels like cooking, the local pantry or food bank will provide food free. Food stamps no longer mean "food". It means mad money. If you listen to democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, using food money for manicures, tattoos, and porn is still spending money and it still stimulates the economy.

I am going to open a store that provides manicures, tattoos and porn and make a killing.

The poor are always going to be fat as long as they can get to food. It's the way they are self-indulgent. They feel so deprived in so many areas the least they can do is eat what tastes good. Poor people will not voluntarily choose broccoli over mac and cheese. You can educate them over the moon and it won't help. The poor don't even care about their health. Whether they are healthy or not will not change any of their activities, they do nothing anyway. Paying for ill health isn't their problem it's yours. They don't pay for health care, you do.

the federal food stamp program, snap, does not allow food stamps to purchase anything but food....even toilet paper and sanitary napkins can not be purchased on the federal program....didn't know states had a separate program?

Without assistance our poor will look like the poor in the slums in Brazil, South Africa, and Jamaica. We will need cars with bulletproof windshields.

I think some posters have welfare and food stamps mixed up.

You can be on food stamps and not on welfare, the requirements are actually quite different but I see your point. I am ok with assistance as a tool to help people but not a life style.

I heard Michael Medved on his radio show say that 39 states have no requirements......

...and this:

“I received a notice in the mail that the Department of Human Services had not received my employment verification and therefore could not review my case until I produced another pay receipt (which I could not produce, due to the fact that I’d only worked three weeks at my new job). I had essentially given up at this point. I didn’t need an EBT card; my investigation was merely an exercise in civic welfare accountability and efficiency.

Approximately one month after I had received the first letter, another letter found its way to my mailbox from the Department of Human Services. I opened it up to find an EBT card with my name on it, instructions on how to activate and use the card, and the amount I could access on it per month — 200 dollars. Nothing followed-up my interview, other than the evidently pointless letter I received during the previous month. No one ever asked for a copy of my birth certificate or Social Security card, nor for my student identification card. I answered all of their questions truthfully, but how were they to know that I was who I said I was? Is it really this simple to obtain welfare benefits here in the United States?”

We have a government that puts out public service ads begging folks to take food stamps.
What do you make of that?

Part of the problem is alot of states are broke, you have to hire employees to verify these applications for food stamps and people are getting laid off left and right. States don't have the resources to verify the info anymore.

It goes far deeper than that, Grav.....

What do you make of that?

You should listen to Michael Savage.... He actually worked as a "welfare caseworker" and he said pretty much this: "I was a good liberal going to school, got a job working for the government helping out the alleged 'needy' then I realized these people got more than I did and I had a job - their free apartments were better than mine, they had better furniture then I did, they were entitled to better appliances than I had, yet - I was working hard and they were doing nothing and I'm being taxed?"

Then people blame Savage for being bitter? I cant blame the guy... When you see this shit first hand it is just enraging.

Mike Savage is a douchebag selling the "Poor people have it better than you" myth to Conservatives.......and they eat it up

Bullshit motherfucker......

I've see it first hand, hell it was that type of shit that made hate the progressive party when I was once a progressive. I slowly started to realize all you progressives do is lie and spin the truth. Guess what asshole it's not going to work on me because I've seen it. I've heard what your wealthy elitist masters have to say about the "poor people" and it's all lies..... These "poor people" take pride in the fact they get "Obama money" while they waltz around in their $200.00 shoes and drive around in their $20,000 cars while living off the taxpayer....

You progressives are fucking clueless...

You idiots are like the guy from office space who is playing the 'Gheto Boys' (rap) then rolls up the window when a black dude tries to wash his windshield...... You flakes don't know shit. All you idiots do is sit on the sidelines and throw other peoples money at a bunch of criminalistic losers because it makes you feel all good inside knowing that you support throwing other individuals money at a bunch of gangbaning drug addicts - yet dickheads like you wouldn't drop a dime of your own money in a Salvation Army basket around Christmas -- No because you - in your fucked up mind - already donated by electing progressives into office who steal money and redistribute it to the alleged "needy."

Now get the fuck off your little progressive high-horse and accept reality instead of the illusion you're fed daily by your big ass government masters....

Your '2 cents' is worth more than 2 cents!

"Ironically, the one demonstrable nutritional difference between the poor and others is that low-income women tend to be overweight more often than others. That may not seem like much to make a political issue, but politicians and the media have created hysteria over less.

The political left has turned obesity among low-income individuals into an argument that low-income people cannot afford nutritious food, and so have to resort to burgers and fries, pizzas and the like, which are more fattening and less healthful. But this attempt to salvage something from the “hunger in America” hoax collapses like a house of cards when you stop and think about it.

Burgers, pizzas and the like cost more than food that you can buy at a store and cook yourself. If you can afford junk food, you can certainly afford healthier food. An article in the New York Times of Sept. 25 by Mark Bittman showed that you can cook a meal for four at half the cost of a meal from a burger restaurant. So far, so good. But then Bittman says that the problem is “to get people to see cooking as a joy.” For this, he says, “we need action both cultural and political.” In other words, the nanny state to the rescue!"

Cooking is a lost art in this country. Not just among the poor, but in middle class and wealthy families. Everything is takeout, preprocessed or microwaveable.

How many women know how to bake bread? How many can make a Thanksgiving dinner for their family? I see wealthy people with $100,000 kitchens with restaurant quality appliances who can't fry an egg

I don't cook everyday but I can make a hell of a Thanksgiving Turkey, I love making it with all the fixings yams, mac and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, gravy etc. I get up early to get started on it.

You will make someone a fine wife someday

They really don;t eat beeter. Quicker maybe, lots of processed foods etc.

Staples. Make beneficiaries fo the plan take a basic cooking.Nutrition class and stop paying for any heavily processed foods.

Staples, Rice, Beans, lean meats and fish, veggies and fruit, Milk, flour sugar butter cheese. Forget that Freshetta pizza and those chips and that Soda etc.

Though it is my understanding that only a small amount of the overall EBT or Food Stamp monies can be used for anything other than food . . .unless there is a scam involved which sadly seems rife in the system.

My 2 cents.

Your '2 cents' is worth more than 2 cents!

Well I remember when I separated from the Military in California, I had to go on unemployment for 6 months and since I separated from the Military in California I went on their unemployment rolls. I had to send in a copy of my discharge papers and ID to get started but than every 2 weeks I just had to fill out a paper verifying I had been looking for work and than submit it in the mail to get a check, that was it, nobody was verifying whether or not I was really looking for work because the state was too broke and they don't have anyone to sit there and call up every place I applied at to verify it. There are not enough folks employed to verify these things anymore.

I can prove it to you in dollars and cents.

Know what the average family income is in this nation?

1. “Means-tested welfare spending or aid to the poor…(non-welfare programs provide benefits and services for the general population)…in 2008, total government spending on means-tested welfare or aid to the poor amounted to $714 billion. This high level of welfare spending was the result of steady permanent growth in welfare spending over several decades rather than a short-term response to temporary economic conditions…$522 billion (73 percent) was federal expenditures, and $192 billion (27 percent) was state government funds.” Obama to Spend $10.3 Trillion on Welfare: Uncovering the Full Cost of Means-Tested Welfare or Aid to the Poor

a. By 2008, total welfare spending amounted to $16,800 per person in poverty, four times as much as the Census Bureau estimated was needed to eliminate all poverty in America- that would be $50,400 for a family of three!! Ibid.

b. Over the ten-year period from 2009 to 2018, federal and state welfare spending will total $10.3 trillion. Ibid.

c. This does not include ObamaCare.

2. And when reading the propaganda about poverty incomes, realize that they leave out the income transfers from various government programs: benefits are substantial and the recipients pay nothing. Those in the bottom 20% of income recipients receive over 70% of their income in such transfers. Now, why doesn’t the Old Left Media tell this?
Sowell, "Economic Facts & Fallacies."

a. In 2001 cash and in-kind transfers accounted for 77.8% of said recipients’ income. How fair is it for the Left to tell you that their income is actually 22.2% of what it actually is?
Reynolds, “Income and Wealth,” p. 28

That means that "a one-parent family of three making $14,500 a year (minimum wage) has more disposable income than a family making $60,000 a year." In Entitlement America, The Head Of A Household Of Four Making Minimum Wage Has More Disposable Income Than A Family Making $60,000 A Year | ZeroHedge

b. This tends to explain how Americans living below the poverty level spend $1.75 for every $1 of income. The Myth of Widespread American Poverty
