First Amendment Issue

unI'm sorry you feel so picked on when you come here.

As you bring up "honesty and integrity", here are some ideas for thread topics:

1. Discuss the honesty and integrity of a person who IS entrusted with contact information of a posting community. Then that person not only steals that information, not only uses that stolen information for personal gain, but violates hundreds of posters' privacy by sending them unsolicited emails to recruit them to a website.

My only comment on that is that is one seriously dishonest person who would do such a thing. That person also lacks even an ounce of integrity.

2. Discuss the honesty of a person who uses his website to spy on the personal computers and files of persons who visit that website.

3. Discuss the integrity of such a person.

4. And finally, discuss the hypocrisy of the above described person when they criticize another site for being unethical when they use software for directed advertisement purposes.

These sound like wonderful thread topics. ;)

Holy shit! :scared1:
Yes, holy shit.

As we can see, the OP feels violated because some bot or script spammed her. I can understand that.

Imagine how violated one must feel when a it's an actual person who emailed them for personal gain, and the person was entrusted with that email address, among so many others' adderesses.

Yea... like getting emails from someone who used to be a member of a forum, stealing email and IM addys to promote another forum. That's theft.... but it also smacks of desperation, in my opinion.

Someone is using the words I choose in my posts to link to advertisements.

I feel firstly, it is beyond the pale, and I'm so mad I am seeing red.

Secondly, it is underhanded and uncalled-for conduct.

Thirdly, I have no control over the product that is being solicited or advertised. Is it a product that could someday be cancerous? Could it at some point in administration changes be an ad for pornography?

And I want that practice stopped. I have no desire to be held accountable for somebody using my good name and my posts on this or any other board as a cunning way to sell a product I do not care to see any of my friends financially ruined for buying it if they think it's a favor to me.

Can anybody who advertises here heist the words of other posters to do this? I really don't care for it, and I would thank whoever is doing it to stop doing it.

My words belong to me.

Who is doing this?

1. it is not a first amendment issue because there is no governmental action.
2. the advertisements are linked to key words in your posts because management has allowed them to be.
3. if it's a problem for you, the option is not to post on a board that allows that type of targeted advertising.

i hope that helps.

Right. Some just have to "win the internetz".

But then when exposed as stealing such information, the thief tries to say that he purchased an email list including info from several forums, and his sycophants buy it.

Too funny, especially when the email received is quite specific about a certain "board where I post" and he himself has told others, and it's saved, that he took the info.

Those who accept hypocrisy are destined to be suckers. As PT Barunum says....there is one born every minute.

Your first two points are well-taken, and thank you for the explanation.
So long as USMB is being paid for it by advertisers, I'll accept it. But that is not how it was explained to me by another mod. ;)

Some just demonstrate a habit of lies.

Fascinating to watch, like a freak show.

Some times I wonder why these two don't just use the same avie. Then I remind myself it doesn't matter.

  • You're talking to yourself about things that don't matter.
  • Then you're answering yourself about these things that don't matter.
  • And you do it repeatedly? (Sometimes)

:D

You talk to yourself and answer yourself repeatedly saveliberty.

Being wrong in your eyes could be right. :D

You want to be someone's sock, its okay by me. Enjoy.

Just because you think someone's a sock doesn't mean they are one. That's even when you say they are and answer yourself with an "I told you so". :D
He's trying to effect social change. :eusa_shhh:

Don't ask me how that works, because I have no idea.
