Same with me. You get days of warning of a hurricane and have those days to stock up, get whatever you need because you know you won't have power. Works for me every time.
Oh and I sure as hell don't wait for the Govt. to save my ass or provide for me. I've always taken care of myself. All people should.

Simply put FEMA isn't and never was a first responder. They don't have the staff. States have local and statewide emergency responders. And Natl Guard. Fema does help coordinate interstate compacts on states helping states.
Fema will help first responders get supplies. Distribution is not on the agenda though.
As the response indicated, FEMA helps people get loans to rebuild. That's really its primary face to face contact with citizens. It's how the feds administer disaster funds appropriated by congress and directed by the executive branch.

These are idiots who didn't prepare for a hurricane and now want to be "saved"! If you're going to stay to ride out a hurricane you better provide yourself with food and water to last at the very least four to five days. If you don't do so then you're going to be one very miserable person following the storm because the first priority is going to be search and rescue for people trapped in debris or the recovery of bodies. It's not rocket science if you live in Hurricane prone areas...you get together a box of hurricane supplies...keep it in your pantry...and when a storm threatens you augment that with jugs of water and food from the grocery store that doesn't need to be refrigerated. After the storm hits and you lose power you use up what's in your freezer. FEMA will eventually get into these areas to do their work but it won't be done quickly...it never is!
