FEMA not doing much to help those affected by hurricane Michael

Complaints of lack of help are starting to trickle in:

Down the street, Barbara Sanders stood outside her daughter’s unit, where she had come to stay during the hurricane.

“We’re not getting any help,” she said. “We need food. It’s just crazy.”

Sanders said that not a single relief agency had come by to check on them. Only the police had come and it was to tell everyone to leave. “They told us there’s nothing they can do and it’s gonna take a long time to rebuild,” Sanders said.

Let's hope FEMA steps up its game. These are desperate human beings who are suffering.

Governor just announced that 110,000 FEMA aid applications have been received. Saw Nat Guard all over the impact zone. Just because someone gives you ONE ANECDOTAL account -- that's not a news story is it??

Playing politics with victims 20 days before an election is EXPECTED -- but not helpful at all..
You falsely stated that there was only one anecdotal account in the article:

"In Gadsden County, outside Tallahassee, where the storm killed four people, county commissioner Anthony Viegbesie said he had not seen a single relief agency."

And your evidence that FEMA is doing a good job is that many have requested help through applications. Be smarter.
Was this a mandatory evacuation zone? Do the words "no one will come to help you " mean anything?

Why would someone need a person from the government to come and take care of them when it rains a bit harder than normal?

Are people really that weak and defenseless?
This is your idea of it just “raining a bit harder than normal”...

... is it?

Yeah, pretty much.
Then you’re crazy. :cuckoo:

Thanks for the confession.

But not crazy enough to sit out a Hurricane with no preparation and expect FEMA to save my crazy arse.

That's Darwin-level crazy.

And the deputy director of FEMA still has not been confirmed even though he was nominated over a year ago. Seems there is a hold up because of Democrats.
FEMA is under funded and understaffed. You have people who refuse to follow evacuation orders then complain when someone is not right there to rescue them. Most agencies are busy right now focusing on finding trapped survivors and trying to get some needed basic services back on.
Deputy director? What is the director doing? he was confirmed back in June 2017.

People are weak and defenseless against 155mph winds. You really are stupid.

These are idiots who didn't prepare for a hurricane and now want to be "saved"! If you're going to stay to ride out a hurricane you better provide yourself with food and water to last at the very least four to five days. If you don't do so then you're going to be one very miserable person following the storm because the first priority is going to be search and rescue for people trapped in debris or the recovery of bodies. It's not rocket science if you live in Hurricane prone areas...you get together a box of hurricane supplies...keep it in your pantry...and when a storm threatens you augment that with jugs of water and food from the grocery store that doesn't need to be refrigerated. After the storm hits and you lose power you use up what's in your freezer. FEMA will eventually get into these areas to do their work but it won't be done quickly...it never is!

What is so hard about distributing food and water. If this was Obama, you would be criticizing him mercilessly. Because this is Trump, you are attacking the victims. You are so pathetic.

A month ago those people were bragging to their friends up north about how close to the beach they lived.

Stupid democrats waiting for handouts and can't follow instructions. Cops told them to leave, there are shelters available. It's a damn simple concept, if you ain't got what you need where you are, you go where it is available.

.

Stupid Republicans like you. Attacking victims of the 3rd strongest storm to ever hit the US. It unexpectedly grew stronger as it hit land.

People, unlike inanimate objects and less situationally aware animals, know the wind and rain is coming and have the ability to move out of it's way.

Stupidity lies not in the severe weather, but in choosing not to avoid the weather when you have the opportunity to do so and hoping for your government to protect you from it.

Self-inflicted danger makes one less of a victim and more of an cautionary example.

The advantage of living near the ocean, there's a possibility that can happen any given year. People who don't prepare for it are idiots.

Don't get me wrong on this. If Trump was unfairly blamed and driven from office for something he didn't do wrong .... I'd celebrate. I might even celebrate cinco de mayo on any day it happened.

But for people who didn't get out of Panama City and other places next to the ocean, and who still haven't gotten out. that's not really FEMA's fault. There's no power or water in those places, and there won't be for awhile. But there supposedly are safe places for them to evacuate to.

Fema has about 10-15K employees that staff all offices in the US. It coordinates state plans to pool first responders. It sets up places where food and water is delivered, and it's up to states and Natl Guard to actually deliver it.

No.. That's obviously what happens when you build at 2 ft above sea level on a fucking sand bar in the ocean. There WERE houses that survived the tidal surge. Go look at the films. ALL built on 8 to 10Ft stilts sunk 20 or 30 into the sand. And reinforced walls, doors, glass. If you WANT to live on that sandbar --- you better pony up the money to build properly....

You know nothing about living in Florida. People down here know
how to take care of themselves with an approaching storm.

They are experts having lived thru many such storms. Many have always
ridden out a storm. Possibly because they get tired of people crying wolf
every time one approaches.

Evacuating ain't a big deal to most folks...as far as getting away from the
coastline. (storm surge). The problem is and it continues to be a problem
is once you've evacuated you are at the government's whims, when you
will be allowed to return.

The Power Companies all take advantage of FEMA. They know once the
area has been declared a National Emergency, FEMA will foot the bill
for those 20,000 extra power workers brought in to the area. That's why
Power Companies never do year-round preventive maintenance on their
grids/equipment. Why waste their profits when FEMA will pay it after a
crisis.

People are experts in storms. They know the one's to fear and the one's to
just hunker down. They live on the coast line, they'll get the hell out of there.
If they live where I live, they just board up their windows and tape them to
protect from flying objects...but that's it. The coolers are filled with Ice, plenty
of war. Bread and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Lanterns, flashlights and batteries. Couple of radios. The Power Companies respond first to the
places that haven't evacuated, because that is where the most complaints
will come from.

You evacuate your home in an emergency and even if your home is untouched and undamaged, the government may not let you go back
for a month. That's why people don't go.

Yup and that's why in the old days NO ONE built anything near the ocean.

They all knew better. Now you have houses and apartment building all over the beaches.

Bunch of dumbasses in my book.

Stop lying and blaming Democrats.

Dan Kaniewski was confirmed unanimously by the Senate in June, 2017.

Leadership | FEMA.gov
Guess that what I get for believing CBS. FEMA under pressure to respond as Hurricane Michael wallops Florida
Oh? Where does that article say the Deputy Director is among the jobs not filled??

How about that national security issue we suffered when the Nunez memo was issued? How do you keep getting off ignore anyhow?

Tell the class when you had no power for 16 days with trees and power lines down in the roads all around you. That's exactly what I had after Ike and I got nothing from the government because I was prepared. I'm even better prepared now. Also the storm was forecast to get stronger as it moved north, everyone thinks they're bullet proof, they're not.
