hmmm...but...how can this guy have this gun...he is a convicted felon and according to federal, state and local Chicago gun laws...he can't have that gun...

Chicago Police: 3,900 illegal firearms seized so far in 2014 - FOX 32 News Chicago

Officers entered an apartment through an open door and found the woman, who said a man with a gun had just ran to the back of the home, police said. When officers ran to the rear porch, they saw the 22-year-old man attempting to conceal a handgun.

Officers recovered the loaded semi-automatic pistol and the man, who was a convicted felon, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police said.

Can someone explain something to me...the mayor of Chicago and his...police commissioner, blame illegal guns from out of state for the gun violence in Chicago. keep in mind that until Macdonald and Heller, Chicago had an almost absolute, gun ban in the city...which of course meant that only criminals had guns. Now there are states where people own and carry guns and gun stores are common and plentiful in their cities...and they don't have the murder rates of Chicago...

soooo, please tell me how this is a gun problem...and not a problem of generations of children raising children on government welfare, while the democrat party undermines the school system, the police and drives out business while, making the city comfortable, for drugs and drug gangs...

I'll bet he proclaims himself a NRA supporting responsible gun owner.

You wish. He's as responsible as the gays that spread AIDS because they couldn't be bothered to practice safe sex.

will be...? I don't know how we dig ourselves out after the left has dug in so deeply...Dennis Miller believes we have turned...and barring a really cataclysmic event won't be going back anytime soon...I find it harder and harder to disagree with him...

Of course, it's gang violence and no gang member is obtaining weapons in a legal manner, that's for sure.

There is more effort in this country to restrict the gun ownership, gun possession, and the carrying of guns by law-abiding people than there is effort to restrict and retrieve guns from criminals.

Before someone wrongfully proclaims "no universal background checks" or "Gun show loophole", understand that no resident of Illinois may own, or purchase a firearm or ammunition without a state issued FIOD Card.

What is a FOID card?
The FOID card was created in 1968, by the FOID Act, as a way to identify those persons eligible to possess and acquire firearms and firearm ammunition as part of a public safety initiative in the State of Illinois. The FOID card is NOT a "conceal and carry" card.

Who needs a FOID card?
Unless specifically exempted by statute, any Illinois resident who acquires or possesses firearm or firearm ammunition within the State must have in their possession a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card issued in his or her name. Non residents are not required to have a FOID card. New Illinois residents have sixty calendar days after obtaining an Illinois driver’s license or Illinois Identification Card to obtain a FOID card.

Where can I obtain a FOID application?
A FOID application can be downloaded from the Illinois State Police website or may be obtained at most retail stores where firearms are sold.

Firearm Owner's Frequently Asked Questions

And no Illinois resident may legally purchase a handgun outside the state without the services of a Federal Firearms Dealer in the state of purchase and another in the state of Illinois.

Q: From whom may an unlicensed person acquire a firearm under the GCA?

A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee’s premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922(b)(3), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]

Q: May an unlicensed person obtain a firearm from an out-of-State source if the person arranges to obtain the firearm through a licensed dealer in the purchaser’s own State?

A person not licensed under the GCA and not prohibited from acquiring firearms may purchase a firearm from an out-of-State source and obtain the firearm if an arrangement is made with a licensed dealer in the purchaser’s State of residence for the purchaser to obtain the firearm from the dealer.

According to the Pew Research Center, about 2.7 million people live in Chicago, more than any other city except New York and Los Angeles. The more people, the more murders. Looking at the total number of homicides in a city is too simplistic. It is unfair to label a city as the murder capital without considering the size and composition of the city.

Adjust the raw numbers for population size and determine the murder rate per 100,000 people, and a Chicago’s violence problem looks very different.

Chicago’s murder rate of 18.5 per 100,000 people came in 21st nationwide.

When the thinking, moderate left calls for the indictment of the Attorney General for his role in the murders of two Border Patrol Officers and hundreds of innocent Mexican citizens in the insane failure of the gun running experiment we will know that they are on the side of truth and justice.

What's also funny is that they focus so much on making it more difficult for an honest person to practice his or her second amendment right, yet they seem to totally ignore or just brush off all of the gang violence. Hmmmm. Interesting.

Gun Deaths in Rural and Urban Settings: Recommendations for Prevention

suicides accounted for nearly 70% of gun deaths in both urban and rural areas

New CDC Report Finds Stunning Suicide Increases Among Middle-Aged Americans | PBS NewsHour

Most disturbing, that spike among the middle-aged, a 28 percent rise overall, a 40 percent jump among white Americans, and among men in their 50s, suicides increased by more than 48 percent. Guns remained the leading method used in all suicides

Wow, look at that. Looks like every Red State is more dangerous than thug ridden Illinois. Yep, the GOP is more likely to blow their own brains out than giving a black guy in Chicago the chance to do it for them. Who knew?

How unsurprising that you equate suicide with "dangerous". People who commit suicide are going to do so. That doesn't make them "dangerous". What an ignorant twat.

Well, if gun control is an indicator of suicide in a country...then a lot of these countries need to be handing out guns as anti-suicide measure since some of the countries with absolute gun control...Japan, China...for example, have higher suicide rates than the U.S....

SUICIDE DEATH RATE BY COUNTRY

why France, Belgium and 62 other countries have higher suicide rates than the U.S.

As in Japan, so in the U.S. More men than women kill themselves...and in Japan they don't use guns...

does anyone imagine that it is easier to get a gun in Russia than it is in America...and yet they kill themselves in higher numbers than we do...

Suicide is a non starter for the anti gunners...but it isn't about the people killing themselves...they don't really care about that...they just don't want them using a gun when they do it...

And yet, Chicago's annual gun murders are more than 5x the number of murders by strangers in mass shootings. But somehow the mass shootings have been the focus of all sorts of thread here and proposed legislation by politicians.

So which is the greater problem?

Yes, and it's the gun's fault I suppose. Quite obviously, the suicidal person seeks out the weapon. IF it wasn't a gun, it would be something else.

They use the mass shootings because they are so much easier to exploit. They don't really care at all about the victims of crime; they only care about trying to take away or limit one of our rights. I still haven't figured out why that is.

It should be ok, since NRA General Counsel Robert Dowlut was convicted of murder in a 1963 crime spree.
