Europe's Long-Standing Dislike of America

Look Pierre, I admitted that I had the date wrong, I know when WW2 happened. I hit the 6 key instead of the 4 so sue me.
Calling me "Pierre" is another attempt to troll. Do I call you "Sam"?
Your point was that the holocaust was recent, right? It ended 60 years ago. So, you hit the 4 key instead of the 6 key, and the 3 key instead of the 0 key. Are you going to say that you hit the "P-I-E-R-R-E" keys instead of "I-I-I-X"? Your defense is not very impressive.

It was he that told me of the wishes of his people to be independent and free from France. France doesn't want to lose the income from the Basque region, it doesn't take an economist to understand that.
The basque region receives important subsidies from France as it is a financially weak region. Does it take an economist to understand that? Some of the Basque people are independantists - they are a small minority. The other Basques understand that it would be, economically a disaster; and many of them think of themselves as french as well as basque.

Your comrads at the De Gaulle airport in Paris made him strip to search him as he left France, I guess they didn't want him to smuggle any soft smelly cheese out of France. They also refused to speak to him in French in a lame attempt to insult him. Of course he doesn't want to return, he hates the socialism that is France. He has had a taste of freedom in America and loves it and doesn't want to return.
I still think you're making stories up - I have no proof, so I'm not going to pretend you're lying. It is, anyway, very hard to believe.
As for the smelly cheese, this is another attempt to troll. You do not make an interesting debater.

I have no hatred for the people of France, it is your lack of freedom and the horrible propaganda your press feeds you to keep you in the dark that I hate. You claim that we are the ones that have no access to the truth, could you really be that ignorant?
Americans are subject to what one could call heavy propaganda from several news channels and papers; other would call it the "american point of view". France is subject to the same thing.

It makes both nations ignore their own bias and criticize other nations. In any case, I never claimed what is in bold in the quote. You are making up stuff in order to destroy the small credibility I have as a newcomer to this forum.

You have no knowledge about the United States, you only parrot what your press tells you and think that we are the ignorant ones, I feel pity for you not hate.
What do you know about my knowledge of the States? Absolutely nothing. I have my sources, I have been there, I have family and friends there; I am a member of an american message board since 18 months.
While I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable on the USA - for a european - I did not accuse americans to be ignorant about Europe, because I think there is as much incomprehension on both sides. You are, again, making stuff up to suit you: you found yourself without an argument, and started lying.
You are also accusing europeans of being ignorant of the USA, hiding your selective xenophobia behind my supposed anti-americanism.

It is obvious that it is you who doesn't understand.
It is you who as an atheist that doesn't have a clue. Do you honestly believe that the incredible wonders of this planet are just an accident? Do you think that the beauty that is nature is just an accident? How very sad for you to be so naive. Open your eyes and really try to see what is around you. Good luck.
I am here to have serious discussions with people who do not think like me - religious people for example. The welcome I receive is a wall of ad hominem insults. You are not wishing me good luck - you are telling me to fuck off. Ask yourself, what would jesus do?

All you do is quibble over minor points and then call people liars when you hear facts which undermine your beautific vision of French perfection.

Your post has no links whatsoever with the message you quote. I take it as another ad hominem attack, quite the same thing as your previous post:

But we're steadily moving away from those sources...CNN, especially, has been losing ratings in favour of more non-biased sources, such as Fox News, etc.

:)

Welcome to the board! :D

No, he wants you to go back and quote links to his quibble. Sheesh.

Not sure if you're sincere - if yes, thank you. I don't really feel welcome. I have the strong impression that there is "no dog, no french" written on the top of this forum that I can't see for some reason: since I'm here, people look at me with strange looks on their face, and start insulting me loudly to cover what I'm saying. Isn't the point of a discussion forum to discuss?

What is a discussion with people who all agree with you, if not intellectual masturbation?

I'm almost always sincere. Listen, you've obviously had contact with Americans to some degree - don't you recall how 'generally' Americans are loud and blustery? While I lived in Germany I could ALWAYS pick out Americans in a bar - they were loud, drunken and obnoxious. GodBless the internet because people can be obnoxious w/o being beated up.

Just have thick skin - support your opinions with at least valid points - and hang in there. :)

I've been to Paris - and LOVED it.

You might also try posting in some of the more social forums... people are more warm and fuzzy down there.

Its perpetrators are almost all dead. As well as its victims. 60 years, 40 years, it makes a huge difference. Someone who thinks that the holocaust happened in the sixties should not give lessons based on this event of history; I think everybody can understand that.

You guess wrong. I would call him french. A minority of basques are independantists (trying to maintain the purity of the basque people, between other things -_-). The rest of Pays Basque and the rest of France see them as french and call them french.

Well, he obviously is as objective towards France as you are. Very biased.

Did you not read the end of my post? Look at yourself. Who is full of hatred, tell me? Most of europeans do not hate americans. Just read the polls.
Before you make the mistake, I warn you: "yourself" only means: you, sitarro. Most americans are not as hateful as you are.

The United States are currently facing several hot issues - just like France, just like any country. I am not mentioning these issues, because that would be trolling.

Funny, how you can criticize nazism and then proudly claim your hatred! There was a lesson to learn from the whole episode of World War II. It was not remembered - in Europe (except maybe Germany) or in the USA. But it becomes truly ridiculous when people who didn't understand anything of the moral consequencies of this war, start to blaim others based on it.

You're obviously right, but you're also lying. You can't say that the french acted for their own interest whithout mentioning the interests that the USA had in helping France in both world wars.

The political orientation of this forum is obvious, and that's why I thought it would be interesting for me (being an atheist and a european). I do not have an automatically low opinion of people who not agree with me. I have a low opinion of trolls.
Maybe I'm the wrong sub-forum?

I'm confused...aren't Basque a combination of breeding of French and Spanish...dating back to the Roman occupation...ie: French mixed with Spanish living in Spain or Spanish mixed with French living in France...since the area of concern is the French/Spanish border...and was not the Roman general Marcus not 'Basque' from Spain...could be wrong but just curious since the 'Basque' was brought up!

I was kidding Clay but it seems that you are a little too offended, you do know that Darrin is married to a beautiful WOMAN and has an adorable child don't you? Geeeez! :smoke:

Of course I knew you were kidding. Just like I know now that you're sucking up to him by calling his wife hot because you're worried he might have taken you seriously as well. You're missing the point of my post, but that's ok. I knew you were kidding all along, so no worries.

what are you saying? All i've seen you do is argue about basque and other minor trivialities. And if people's comments are too loud, I suggest you turn down your computer speakers.

I'm not married to a beautiful woman...I'm married to a 'pretty cute at times' woman....and that's pretty mean, about my kids....which one of the two is 'adorable'?

:)

My friend does speak Spanish as well as he speaks French. He has told me that the Basque people would like their own country but both Spain and France don't want to lose such valuable real estate. He does like Spain more and that would be his choice if he would return but he seems to be very happy here. America has welcomed him with very few exceptions, his art career is going very well and he loves President Bush because he sees what he is doing in the name of freedom and respects him for having the balls to do the right thing(he is used to EUnuchs for politicians). American women are nuts about him as soon as he opens his mouth. . . why would he consider going back.
